Dang that's a little pricey. I guess cheaper than a new truck. Lol

This is the RFID system I installed. I did make up my own stealth wiring harness so there is no large relay to find.

I also made my own leather RFID keyfob (right) using the RFID chip in from the ebay item (left).

Dude, hate to burst your bubble but you're not a high value enough target for perps to scour the interwebs looking for weekneses in your defenses.

None of us are. We don't even drive a vehicle in the top 10 stolen vehicles.

All this talk of secret security devices. When all you need to do is make your vehicle more of a pain to steel than the one right next to you, or just not a target in the first place. The vast majority of thefts are teenagers or other young hoodlums looking for a quick joy ride. More often than not they aren't even trying to steel the vehicle, they just want whatever might be of value you have piled up on the seats/floor or your fancy stereo system

If someone wants your truck, they're going to take it. Don't matter if you have kill switches or whatever, they'll take it. Probably on a flatbed.

If you don't want your rig stolen, don't live in these areas:

    Rank
Metropolitan Statistical Area (1) Vehicles stolen Rate (2)
    1 Bakersfield, CA 6,538 726.28
    2 Albuquerque, NM 6,399 697.05
    3 St. Joseph, MO-KS 770 614.90
    4 Modesto, CA 3,156 573.13
    5 Odessa, TX 946 569.11
    6 Topeka, KS 1,293 557.40
    7 Yuba City, CA 959 546.01
    8 Merced, CA 1,483 534.07
    9 Yakima, WA 1,325 528.16
    10 Springfield, MO 2,420 514.57

    and don't drive these vehicles:

    Rank Model
    1 Ford Pickup (Full size)
    2 Honda Civic 33,220
    3 Chevrolet Pickup (Full size)
    4 Honda Accord
    5 Toyota Camry
    6 Nissan Altima
    7 Toyota Corolla
    8 Dodge Pickup (Full size)
    9 GMC Pickup (Full size)
    10 Honda CR-V

Well my truck was. Accosted the other day and now I'm paranoid about it getting stolen. I'd rather not lose it.

I think you're in living in a bubble if you think it's not prudent to have a security device on your vehicle and not share the details on the internet. If you came over to my house and I knew who you are I'd be more than happy to share the details with you and even help you install something similar in your vehicle. Last I checked this is an open forum that anyone can read, so I could be sharing information with anyone doing a google search, sorry I am not comfortable with that. I had a stranger come to my door and ask me if my truck was for sale. That guy clearly was interested in my truck and knew where I lived. It was right after that I put in the kill switch. Your statistics won't protect my truck from being stolen.

My son lives in a low crime area and he had his beautifully restored Honda CRX stolen from his driveway. He didn't have a kill switch, maybe the thief could have gotten around it but you do what you can to protect your stuff and if you don't, your the one that feels the pain when it's gone.

Your making a lot of assumptions on who is stealing cars.

Saying not living in those 10 areas that somehow your protected is nonsense.

Saying if you don't have one of the top 10 stolen cars so you are somehow protected is also nonsense.

Your comment if someone wants your truck they're going to take it is not really true. If they don't have the knowledge or the equipment, they will probably just steal someone else's car or truck.

Haven't done this, but since the gas tank is locked and your wiring for the fuel pump is right there, you could hide a switch (or switch to relay) right next to the gas tank cap. Obviously this would work better if you don't need to feel killswitch level of safe every time you park the truck.

Probably. Unlike the 4Runners, there's no RFID in the key, but if you have the security package I don't think it will crank unless it's logged an unlock.

Alternate, hidden e-brake pull (plenty of room under the truck to rig an incognito lever).

if you can’t afford that then I’d suggest swapping to a standard trans, that’s just as good if not better than a kill switch.

I have it set to not allow the starter relay to energize. A nice thing about this RFID system, once you stop the truck it disables the starter relay automatically, no need to flip a switch.

My comment about someone wanting your vehicle WILL take it wasn't about some highschool kid magically having the knowledge to defeat your secret kill switches. That kid is just going to smash your windows and take your stereo. I'm talking about the professionals. It won't matter if you have 10 different kill switches and it's locked in a garage, if they want your truck, they're taking it (on a flatbed). Of course, that's pretty rare. Most of the time, it's those highschool kids or tweekers who are looking for a quick score.

I was talking about reducing your chances. Theft can happen to anyone anywhere, as your son learned. I had my civic broken into, they tried to steal it from the driveway, but were too dumb. Ended up doing a ton of damage to it.

In my case, I didn't need a kill switch. But let's say I had one and that's what prevented the car from being stolen. I'd be in the same situation, I'd have a car with broken windows/busted locks, a bent steering column, and a rat's nest of ripped out wires under the dash.

Frankly I would rather them have taken it. The repairs made dealing with insurance more a pain in the ass than if it were just gone. I could have been at the dealer the next day, but had to deal with insurance and the repair shop for weeks.

Yes, that was exactly my point. Make your car less attractive to steal than someone else's.

But as I said earlier, your secret kill switch doesn't do that. All that does is maybe prevent them from leaving with it after they've already broken into it and F'd up the inside. At that point, the damage is already done, and I'm betting that will just piss them off and they'll do even more damage just to spite you.

In the end, just have good insurance.

    Park it in the garage.

My civic was broken into in the driveway (tried stealing it but were too dumb). Next day I rearranged the garage and parked it inside. Never got broken into again.

One of the reasons I HATE seeing houses with converted garages, or just the folks with so much shit piled up in their garage they should be on an episode of hoarders.

I'd suggest that there are SAFER places to hide an energized switch or relay next to the gas cap.. Any dip spilled or vapor trapped during a fill up + a switch/relay in that location sounds outright dangerous.

I have some high dollar options in my truck that I'd like to keep like the supercharger and locking rear end.
You can't get good insurance on an old truck, they just total it and give you market value,
