Maybe op wants to use it when backing up into to tight spots. Seems like you're assuming he's solely staring at the screen and backing up without checking his surroundings.

I wasn't assuming how the OP backs up.

Just stating what I do and the field of vision difference. Back up Cams have very large blind spots, basically anything to either side.

Based on my observations.....most who have backup cameras become dependent and never turn to actually look.

When you live in a neighborhood with oblivious rugrats who don't know what reverse lights mean, you need a backup camera...

    Ahh I see.
You might be able to create a small angle bracket to mount to your license plate screws, but yeah, not plug and play like the one you have.

This Amazon one seems like a good one: https://www.amazon.com/Esky-Universal-Waterproof-Sensitive-Wirecutters/dp/B00GMC8QXI?th=1
Some people with Tacoma's used it (from the reviews). I don't know how plug and play it is, but at most some wire tapping/splicing.

The one I've got now has it's own bracket that's separate from the license plate frame; For the last day or so the camera that's in there now has been working fine, so we'll see what happens...

    @ColoradoTJ

Literally right across the street from the new houses pictured above, albeit a couple days earlier; Creative kids turned their little red wagon into an armored personnel carrier!

    Holy hell that’s creative.

Amazing how the internet can make some of these attempts on armored cars seem cool.

Much different experience in real time. :burnrubber:

I just got the pop n lock tailgate handle with the camera in it. My 2014 base was prewired for it. Easy and works

Yes it is; Randomly decided to test out the cruise control while going through a speed trap…

    It’s working again!

    Weellll.....its your choice.

Just remember, the BU camera only looks directly behind the vehicle. It won't see a yard ape on a trike or bike or chasing a ball approaching from the side......then it maybe too late to stop.

I use it more for backing into tight spaces; I tend to look out the back window when reversing out of my driveway…

I used to have a big ol Ram diesel that had a backup cam. I regularly used it for backing myself up to hitch a trailer solo. It’s way easier than getting out 5 times to make sure you’re angled right, at the right distance, you didn’t roll past it when getting into park, etc…

Having an 07 with the factory radio I went with this one.

Not necessarily to use a backup camera, but to keep an eye on my utility trailer when hauling something. Because the trailer has a "tool box" on the tongue, I mounted the camera inside the cap on my truck. Using a toggle switch I've had for years, I wired it to the monitor so I can turn it on/off when I want.

    Pictures for attention.

Remind me Charlie what dashcam did you recently get, and what was prior? Good/bad/etc?

    Might be getting one soon

Right now I’m running a Thinkware dashcam; I like it, but the quality of rear camera is not as good as the one it replaced…
