Hey, I didn't buy this truck to be fast....
What size are you running? Your setup looks good.

 

265/75r16. For an "E" rated mud tire the Yokohamas aren't too heavy. I had the Pirelli's before and they were "C" rated at about 50 pounds if IIRC.

 

How do you like them Yokahamas?
I have cooper STT Pros and would like something lighter. Quieter wouldn't hurt either.
I will miss the performance though.

 

They're ok on road. They're louder than I expected, but maybe my expectations were a little skewed. They're not obnoxious for a mud tire but the reviews I read set my expectations to more of an "all terrain" noise level. They really don't have the best manners on road. They have a little more of a floating feeling than any tire I've experienced, and seem to want to track grooves in the road more. I'm currently running them at 35ish pounds but I'm gonna back them down to 32ish and see if they improve a little on road.

That said they are excellent on rocks, tough as nails and not too harsh at 18 pounds. I've not had any chunks of tread missing after rough off road excursions, which is commonplace and expected from other manufacturers. They clear the treads of both mud and pebbles really well. I guess when you look at it in the correct light of the manufacturers designing goals they're probably one of the best "weekend" tires out there. And isn't that what we're all living for?

Minimal rub with my lift, will be trimming a tiny bit of plastic.

 

Added 235/85/16 Falkens w/1.25 spidertrax, ARE Camper Shell and 15% tint.

 

Can't stop looking back at these wheels...
I know the bronze can be an acquired taste but I think the color pop really helps reduce the "work truck" vibes.

First impressions on the 285 70 17 load C on stock gears:
Slightly more sluggish than the 265 75 16 I had on before but barely noticeable. Curious to see how it does going uphill on the freeway when loaded down heavy with gear.

 

I was on the same boat when I ordered my Enkei’s, wasn’t even sure it was going to work with Desert Sand Mica but now I love it. Your truck looks awesome with the bronze wheels.

I have a similar size. With the 4-banger and 5MT, I use 4th gear most of the time and 5th is now an overdrive used on flat ground or if I have a tailwind.

I'd like to get a public service announcement out here. As some of us regular cab owners have been lead to believe that none of the manufacturers of skid plates make them for our trucks. I bought and installed a set of aluminum Pelfreybuilt skids yesterday that came off a 3rd gen dcsb. Surprisingly, the transmission and IFS skids bolt up with no problem at all. I believe the story that our transmissions "being shorter" may be a myth.

The transfer case skid however did need some massaging to fit. The transfer case skid for most manufacturers bolt to the frame rails in some fashion. On our frame rails just forward of the fuel tank is a rivit on the bottom of the frame that holds some inner frame rail reinforcement which prevents us from bolting to the bottom of the frame. These rivits are on both sides of our frames, and are both preventing the skid plate from laying flat against the frame. With the Pelfrey skid there is only one bolt attaching the skid at the frame. That rivit is still in the way though. I do not recommend removing this rivit, but you can cut a recess area around this rivit in your new skid plate like this.

Now for the for those transfer case skids that also add a crossmember aft of the transfer case I would imagine it would be more work than its worth as there's a lot of wiring, brake lines, and other crap on the drivers side, and no predrilled holes to use. Also, depending on the skid, the new crossmember's required location it may not work due to our fuel tank. Here you can see I'll probably need to trim my fuel tank skid, but this shows how there really isn't much real estate in that area to work with.

The bigger cut out on my Pelfrey skid was put there by the previous owner to accommodate his URD exhaust but it still provides complete coverage of the transfer case.

I know I've seen people asking about full skid plates. Just know it isn't impossible and two of us spent about 4 hours total measuring, cutting, and cutting again. I feel it was time we'll spent.

 

I have a full set of 2nd gen RCI skids, minus the fuel tank. No cutting needed, they fit like any other model Tacoma

 

Mine don’t. The tranny skid is a couple inches short and the t case has a bent section that reduces ground clearance by a couple of inches.
I’m very disappointed in mine.
The front is okay, but I spent around $900 for 1 out of 3 that I like.

Please give me some info on the cap/topper/shell. Im impressed with how well it fits and aligns with the cab. I’m looking to install one on my 2013 regular cab truck and have Leer and ARE dealers within 30 minutes.

 

Thats disappointing to hear I wonder what they changed. Maybe it has something to due with auto vs manual on the tranny skid, and lining the tcase up to that.

 

I've had both a Leer and ARE and that appears to be a Leer
