Morning fellas. Doing some welding and looking for tips/advice. 1/8 7018 rod at ~110 amps. I feel like I need to go slower possibly? 210B15CA-9F9C-4682-BB4D-C31E6C251447.jpg3B873291-6062-4045-ACFA-585D7ED98482.jpg

May be getting out of the shop early today, lost a leg of 3 phase and a lot of stuff cut off. Not the first time this has happened over the years. Heard a loud pop outside too, transformer probably.

We were in the 70's yesterday, I think. The wind must have changed. It's not enjoyable right now.

And the AQI chart goes to 500!

I sat here for an hour and a half with no power, decided to go home and mow the yard. Got 3 miles from the shop and boss man sent me a chirp and said the power is back on :D

While we've enjoyed this little gift, I think Montana could use it more.

Well typically it's not as long as you don't make eye contact or wear socks. You already lost the eye contact rule so you treadin' thin waters. Trust me, I'm an expert at this stuff

Honestly that looks pretty damn good. If you're gonna be welding something that thick, you might want to crank it up to say 150-165. Obviously keep most of your heat on the solid piece of metal. 7018 is a structural drag rod, so keep that in mind. Personally I hate the 7018 rods and usually stick (no pun intended) to 6013. They seem to weld better for me and go through rusty metal better.

I agree, 6013 is an awesome rod, will burn through rust and dirt, and easier to get a bead down. 7018 is stronger but not as easy to weld with.
