Definitely can do both, I agree there. Everyone has their vices since life is short - firearms, stocks and vacations being mine lol. In my experience, folks who've earned good money (earned money, not being lent credit) generally don't spend money like a drunken sailor and are also able to appreciate the nice things in life.

The guy I'm talking about is the dummy putting all their money into a vehicle thinking it's actually adding value to it (value beyond the sentimental) and then going on to try to sell the thing for $80k.

If you aren't trying to sell your built tacoma for $60k+, do you even really own a tacoma?

Agree completely. Most people I know who do well are able to do both responsibly. I'm talking about the dummy who $20k of mods to their truck thinking they'll be able to flip the damn thing for $80k lol

This is the first truck that I have ever modded. Im new and late to the modding community. I have enjoyed looking at all the other builds in this forum and it gives me ideas and directions to where I want to go. I told myself that if I started going down the "MOD" road that I would only do it if I had the cash in my pocket and so far I have stuck to that. I've waited months to order some mods and arrive too. 2020 sucked but this community and modding has been one of the few things that squeezed a little joy out of the past year and a half. I know posts are worthless without pics but it really wasnt about the FLEX but building and learning to love the truck I have and appreciating other Tacos....crispy or soft.

Normally I'd agree with the depreciating asset statement 100%. For these trucks, not so much right now. That said, everyone's got their thing(s) they do with their disposable cash. Some people travel, some people go to a casino, some people spend it on their trucks. I don't see anything wrong with that as long as you're not spending the mortgage payment on a set of tires.

Yup exactly, although I make an exception to that. As much as I can of what I buy every month, including truck bling, goes on my Amex Delta Skymiles card. That way I get about 4,000 miles a month added to my Delta account while I'm not traveling for work because of Covid, and I just pay the balance when the bill comes in. I still consider that paying cash.

Well of course if you pay it off every month that's a different story.

i keep thing simple... there really no shame in having a stock or modded or even super modded trucks. we all bleed the same color...
on my behalf, i modded my truck during covid to keep me busy and not go out of my boring mind... i feel lucky just to be able to own a nice vehicle...

I am right there with you. Only differences are I went for the OEM auto tailgate lock too (installing in the next few days), OEM all weather mats instead of the WeatherTech, BakFlip G2 instead of the MX4. When my OEM tires go I will replace them with Michelin Defender LTX M/S. And I look good in my truck too...because you can only see me from the shoulders up

Hi, you must be new to Tacomaworld. You're supposed to pick one side of the argument and then the other side are mall-crawling douchebags. There's no place for common sense here. Let me know if you have any questions.

Best thing I've read in awhile!

Just cause I can throw 5k at my truck at will, doesn't mean I also dont throw 10k into a retirement. You just don't see the latter half and make that assumption...

I was at my favorite boondock, middle of nowhere, hillbilly bar the other day. I dropped 100 bucks on keno and some dude says "must be nice to spend that kinda money" (in a shitty voice). I don't think I've been that mad in a long time hearing that! I've busted my ass to be where I am and do what I do. I didn't get it sitting on a barstool...

Don't get mad. Just respond in a normal, friendly tone and say "yes, it is", letting him know that he will never be able to do that.

Lifted dually. That saying about "tits on a bull" come to mind every time I see one. Makes zero sense, it's like the country version of teenage edge-lords...

Yes. It's not acceptable if someone likes what you don't like. Forum rule.
