This is usually not a problem, is the ball completely loose or is it just not tight enough?

Andy messaged me about it, I’ll play with it a bit more. It isn’t threading in nearly far enough, needs maybe another 1/4”

We have the first batch cut already. Going to anodize this week. Hopefully we will have those back next week. I’m getting a bunch of black and some red ones. Here’s the Production version V1 (before anodize)….

Looks way nicer than the plastic stuff. Seems like it might be possible to make it all one piece? Does it really need to be adjustable? Do CB microphones have lcd’s these days?

It could be one piece, that sits directly on the DMM but that would make it DMM-only and putting a 1” ball on it basically means it’s universal. It is a good idea and not that hard to make so I may do a one piece version in the future.
Another consideration though is the overall side of the piece, when machining, we are using a solid block of aluminum so adding a flange in the wrong direction adds a lot of material therefore a lot of machining and ends up driving the cost up so there’s situations where making two pieces instead of one just makes more sense.
Clever design can help alleviate some of that and if I do make a one piece I’ll have to come up with a way to make a one piece with a smaller piece of stock so the price isnt crazy.

Love my mount I bought from you a while back. Besides the vinyl stickers I got to hide the crap chrome on my Sport wheels till I found Pros, this is the only upgrade that nearly got me killed by my wife. “You drilled into my dash!!!” Haha. I survived, and this is still one of my very best Mods! Just a word of caution for those with wives that actually pay attention to the crap we do.

I need to do this myself. Hopefully there is an unused switched power wire in the dash behind the radio.

Add a fuse to the in cab fuse box is the easiest route for power to aux USB. Lots of switched spots and likely some are unused. Piggyback on poutlet1 or 2.

A T harness off the radio could work too but isn’t as clean to get at the fuse. And I think that switched power there is a turn on signal more than a power source. Ok for low current but usb charging could be 2-4 amps.

Hey, thought you all might like to see a little variation on a phone/accessory mounting solution.

I have a Pitaka case and mount, which has been seen around here. Nice and strong magnets, I’ve never had an issue over the past 2 years with it coming off the mount (untested off-road). Note, I prefer the mount that does NOT charge the phone. The charging version has a fan that’s always on when charging. It would be annoying mounted up high like this. I use CarPlay anyway which charges.

I grabbed the $10 cable from Aliexpress and a lightning cable off Amazon to hook into the CarPlay, works great. 3+ week shipping.

I’ve mounted it using part of the Pitaka mount, along with the ball you can get from .

The different part that I’ve used is made by a company called ULCS. They make parts for underwater photography. The arms that we use to hold our lights in the water use the same 1” ball system, so you can use their arms and clamps as desired. In this case, I didn’t need any sort of distance between the dash and the phone so I just used one of their clamps to attach the phone mount to the ball on the dmm. I’m doing some red anodized accents here and there, so I went with this clamp here. Also comes in green, blue, pink and the standard black. You can get them in a longer version, a triple, lots of options. I love the look of a nice piece of metal over the crappy plastic stuff that’s normally used, and it matches my red anodized start button pretty perfectly. Note they are always available in black but the colors probably won’t be around forever.

Maybe it’s a good solution for some folks, hope it’s helpful.

I'm on my 2nd DMM, forgot to yank the first out of the truck when I sold it. Has anyone mounted a SwitchPro from their DMM. Dave's @daveeasa ScanGauge question brought this to mind. I don't really like it in the driver's side cubby. It's hard to see without completely taking my eyes of the roadm

Anyone with an iPhone 12 charge their phone magnetically with this kit? Trying to figure out how to accomplish that.

I actually just spotted this one. I like that idea since I’d like to save the cubby for a brake controller

Does anyone see any problem if I push the usb plug behind the dash and cover it with a blank switch piece? I want to run the cord behind the dash up to my dmm

Is there a blank available for that spot? If I recall correctly, it’s smaller than the rest of the cutouts.

What i did was run the plug through one of those empty switch blanks, i took a small screw and threaded it into the middle of the blank so you can pull it out with your hand. Drill a small enough hole to fit the phone end of the plug through it. All you have to do then is pull off your radio trim again file one of the spots on the top by the dmm, you will see where he put two notches in the metal i just filed the plastic away quick. Took like 20 mins super easy i can take a picture if you need.
