OEM battery went to 5 years 8 months

I have been lucky I guess. Only bought 1, maybe 2 batteries I think in 35 plus years. I will say my average ownership is about 3 years before I trade my cars in.

So the lesson here is, if you are tired of wasting money and worry about your battery just trade your vehicle in every few years.

 

Or don’t take short trips. Also if your truck sits for days, make sure you take a nice long drive to charge the battery. Worked great for me over the years.

Ive only had to replace 2 batteries in 16 years I’ve been driving, considering I love to blast my music for hours with the engine off, especially camping.

 

It doesnt matter only three companies make all of the car batteries in the world. If they all have the same rating they should last the same unless it's an AGM

 

Now there is a good economical solution.

 

Batteries don't last as long anymore, since all the added electronics in these new cars.

I recommend the Toyota Truestart 84 month battery from the dealer. My original oem one was leaking from the top caps and it was replaced with the true start 84 month one under Warranty. Been running strong for over 4 years in AZ heat.

A lot depends on where you live. Hot weather is what kills batteries, but it is cold weather when you find out they are dead. Even an almost dead battery will usually still start a vehicle in warm weather.

I've been driving cars for almost 50 years. I've only had one die in under 5 years and had some last 7-8 years. In my experience 5 years is about average.

 

I had a Panasonic battery in my old Mitsubishi truck that lasted 8 years before I replaced it.
It didn’t stop working I just thought it was time to replace it.

 

I’m at 7-1/2 years & 98K miles on this one, and got 7 or 8 years on my ‘90 and my ‘01.

This right here. Live out near Palm Springs and we get 120+ in summer. Lucky to have a battery go three years out here.

 

Damn, good for you. My first died under warranty, the second started having issues less than 2 years later.

I bought an Autocraft AGM made by Johnson Controls.

 

I got 11 years out of my last Odyssey, still use it around the garage to bench test things.

 

Made right down the road from my house. Heavy as hell tho!!

 

My wife’s 2015 GX460 has an X2 and it’s been in the truck from 2017 and knock on wood, my 2012 SLK350 has the original battery in it, but it is hooked up a battery tender when the vehicle is not in use.

 

I'm coming up on 3 years, my starts feel like they are one turnover longer than I remember... What are the most noticeable signs to a dying battery?

 

Slow engine crank is the most common sign. You could try fully charging it with a trickler, and/or have Autozone load test it, but if it were me, I would proactively change it
