How teams think he's a good hire is beyond me. Most of his takes suck and, when did coach, the team he coached in the past was far worse with him than without him. I get they gave him something in the front office but I can't see value there.

It would be like putting Cherry on the bench again. Worst idea ever.

Seems to me he tried to pull an Ovi there going full party mode with no shirt and a beer, but failed miserably. No real Russian (or any non-American for that matter) would ever touch a Bud Light. Which brings up an interesting question: Did the owner walk into the locker room after the game with a 24 of Bud Light to thank the boys for all their hard work this year? lmao

They should. Even if they don't want him I'm willing to bet that it's worth it to have him mentor the rookie goalie they're getting out of Florida as well as the satisfaction of calling the Habs bluff.

Agree 100%. It's rather hilarious. Also, I just don't get the media / Seattle's fascination with Driedger. He's like 27 and only has a handful of NHL games. Granted he was very good this year, when he was in. But that is such a small sample size, plus he was not good in playoffs. I mean, Pens a larger sample size of Jarry and know he's the dog in town. I think Edmonton gave Koskinen more of a look before signing him to that ridiculous contract too lol. I guess we shall see. I guess the rumor is 3.5 mil / per, which isn't terrible though. And I agree, it's perfect to have him and Price. I think they take 3 guys, so as long as they can keep the $ down to compensate for Price's contract, it's not too bad. Driedger is the most logical, as opposed to some of the other higher priced veterans.

Part of me would like to see Murray go there and reinvent his career, but that probably won't happen.

Per multiple sources on Twitter, Seattle is not taking Price. So they are basically dead to me, now. F them lol.

Sorry to see Tanev go. Overall, I thought Francis did not do a good job. There are quite a few young, inexperienced players he took. He must be intending to be very active in the free agent market. The question then becomes, are well established players, looking for a Stanley Cup run, interested in going to Seattle with the current roster they have? At this point, I don't see the Kraken making a fast run to the playoffs like Vegas did.

One more thing. McCann's stay in Toronto sure was a short one.

Curious to see how Seattle's roster compares to Vegas' roster when they started their playoff runs right off the bat.

Hurts to see Gourde go, he's a scrappy little Pitt bull and his line was a huge part in lifting both cups.

My memory says that Vegas had many more experienced players - including playoff experience - with a strong NHL pedigree. If you look at the article I attached, it says all 3 goalies on the Kraken roster have a total of 43 wins, with 36 of them coming this past season. Half the players have 3 years or less experience in the NHL, and only two - Gourde and Dunn - have their name on the Cup.

Francis wanted a first and a third to allow teams to protect players. Instead Toronto traded a mid level prospect and a 7th to protect Kerfoot by acquiring McCann with those assets. Dubas hasn't built a winner yet but there's no doubt the guy is smart.

Speaking of smarts, I think Hextall traded McCann to force a Tanev move. While I like Tanev, many argue that the length of the contract, along with the cost, was too much. Thanks to trading McCann and shedding Tanev, The Pens now have $7.5M in cap space. Their first priority? It appears to be to sign Aston-Reese. I do wonder - if the Pens had kept McCann, would Francis have taken him or Tanev? I think McCann, which is probably why Hextall made the trade with Toronto for what he got. Although Hallander was a Pens pick, in the 2nd round. He went in the Kapanen trade, so the Pens must like him. Considering we don't have many picks this year, that's not a bad return.

Very solid on defense out of the gate through all lines with plenty of space to move or add. Not the splashiest pick ups but solid players with lots of upside. Interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.

That was by design, it seems. If you think about it they basically lost the 7th rd pick and the prospect that he traded us. Otherwise, they lost nothing from their roster. McCann was always just bait, or so the story is. It's smart, depending on how you look at it, I suppose. I've seen plenty of people criticizing Toronto for it, but to me it was a smart move. If anything, you could argue that the Pens lost out. They trade McCann, who maybe would've been taken, but now you also lost Tanev. It clears cap space though, so we will see what they do with it.

As far as Seattle's team. I like their D group. I like their goaltending depth (even though it is not proven whatsoever.) They have some ok forwards. Gourde is a good move, Eberle, Tanev and McCann. It's a bit workman-like. But they have cap space, so maybe they plan to get their top players elsewhere. I'd rather do that than take a terrible contract like Skinner or Duchense to fill the top of your line-up.

From what I've read the Pens wanted to move Tanev. Without doing that, they would have had trouble re-signing Aston-Reese, although the McCann trade has also freed up some money. I don't see Aston-Reese getting $3.5M, per year, and he definitely won't get 4 years.
