yup I recall dealer also gave me a prius as loaner. Next time will keep in mind to request an appropriate vehicle or give them heads up; hope they like the trunk and back seat filled with gravel and horse turd.

Not that I am hauling that around but ffs don't give me a prius; give me something appropriate/equivalent to the truck

@Kacosta91 With only 2K miles, it really is a warranty work. So sorry you have to go through this on your brand new truck, but I hope your dealer will be able to give you an answer soon. Keep us posted.

They loaned me a Camry. It's not too bad, just can't pull my boat with it.

I'm wondering what the next step will be if they can't diagnose it and refuse to keep it. I spoke to the service department yesterday and they said they opened a case with Toyota. I'm not exactly sure what that means.

It means the dealer is stumped but knows there is a problem, they are asking for Corporate assistance.

Sit tight. A face to face with the Service Manager is a good path for questions and to understand the situation.

What was the outcome of this? Replace the whole engine? Consider it a loss?

My guess is rear the rear bypass is leaking. You just can't see it.

I'm really trying not to be upset about all of this but whew!! All in all, I'm glad I went with this particular dealership instead of the one up the road from me.

If you get inquisitive, look through the splash shield on the passengers side wheel well towards the back of the engine, you might be able to see some pink schmoo. Or from underneath the truck, over the transmission hump

It means they are clueless and need the assistance of a Toyoyta engineer (or well seasoned tech) to assist in finding the problem.

This is a good thing for you.

I predict you'll get either a new engine or a replacement truck and you problem will be written up as a Technical Service Bulletin for other dealers to reference.

No need to be upset. Yes, I understand that frustration can set in. Just give the dealer a chance to rectify the problem.

Face to face with the Service Manager can answer and alleviate many concerns.

The truck is a collection of many parts, assemblies all put together to build a complex machine in a high production process. Despite all the checks and inspections, problems do get through.

Whatever the problem is, they will make the necessary repairs and get you your truck in working order. It won’t be a loss. Lots of people on this forum post about how their brand new vehicle is shit be x y z wasn’t right from the factory and now they have to trade it in for a loss bla bla bla. If it’s wrong and it’s a problem the dealer and the manufacturer will fix it within the warranty window. If it’s getting documented along the way by corporate that even more reason to be calm about the outcome, you’ll get the truck back in full operational condition.

They've been very transparent with me as far as I can tell. So I honestly don't think I'll get the wrong end of the stick. I just want my truck that's all!

You're right about that! I came across a Mustang pulling a trailer filled with cement blocks recently, so I'm sure the Camry could handle my boat LOL

    Update:

The dealership called and said that the coolant was leaking into the engine so they will be replacing the whole engine. Everything is under warranty. However it will be a lengthy process so they don't have an estimated date for when my truck will be ready.

Thank you to everyone who commented on here. I really appreciate everything!

Spare engines are probably in short supply.

Glad you have an answer. Sorry for the trouble.

Enjoy the Camry loaner in the meantime.

As an aside, it maybe wise to contact your insurance carrier about the situation. You may be driving the Camry for a while. Remember, accidents happen.

I believe so, I was so shook up about them having to replace the whole dang thing. I'm glad they didn't waste any time trying to figure out a solution.

That's a really great suggestion, I will contact them this afternoon. Also, they offered to put me in a bigger loaner when one becomes available. I'm considering taking them up on that offer.
