I can't seem to figure out how to get the dash kit on. The trim ring doesn't seem to fit.

Also, do you use the metal brackets off the stock stereo or the plastic ones in the dash kit? Does it matter?

    Help!

does the radio not stick out of the dash kit far enough to snap on the trim ring? does it stick out too far? can you be any more specific or maybe snap a quick pic?

Ok, finally got it! I guess it's been a really long time since I installed a car stereo. Last time I did it, dash kits were a lot simpler than they are these days...

The problem was simply a matter of what order I put stuff on. And (at least with the Scosche kit) you can't use the metal brackets, you have to use the plastic ones it came with.

So, the order is (if this makes sense):
    Dash Kit
Put the plastic brackets in place in the dash kit
    Put on the trim ring
Slip the stereo into the brackets and bolt them on
Slide the whole thing back in to place in the dash

When I take the stereo back out next week to wire up the amps, I'll try to snap some pics of the order in which it is put together. Cause the "directions" sure's hell don't describe it very well... :)

    Here it is installed!

looks great - love the double din setup. looks like it belongs there! the last few radios in installed were kinda fussy to get the depth just right but enough messing around with the brackets made it work. haven't done my truck yet so a picture "schematic" would be a nice addition!

did you have the stock JBL system? if so, did you get the special JBL wiring adapter?

    Nope, no JBL.

Also, ground out the parking brake wire and I'm good to go watching porn while I drive! :)

You know, the first three vehicles I ever saw with video screens (back in the late 90s) were all three playing porn...

I sold the factory JBL stereo. After the new stereo was in I had some sort of problem (I can't remember wat is was) and I took it back to the stereo shop. They told me I needed the factory metal brackets. They thought they lost them and ordered me new ones.

This is just my experience. YMMV.

I guess the metal brackets might work but they won't have the plastic "grooves" that make it snap into the dash kit. When I tried to use the metal brackets first it wouldn't fit. However, I was doing it in the wrong order. So you may be able to use them...

Though I'm not sure I had the same dash kit.

I had to remove about 2 mm off the inside top of the black plastic bezzle, otherwise the display wouldn't move properly.

I used a sharp exacto knife, a file, and sandpaper.

I had so many damned cables in there I'm surprised the head fit!

Now if I could only figure out why the bluetooth handsfree stopped working ...

I know it opens and closes completely, but haven't figured out how to change the screen angle. Couldn't find it in the manual...

Go to steup, then monitor and I think its on the second page of options where you find the different tilt angles. The only one I can't do is the reverse tilt (-1), the installer said there wasn't enough "room" in the dash.

There's plenty of room in the dash. Its probably interfering with the bezel or something like that and your installer was either too lazy or wasn't able to figure out how to make it work. My does the full range of motion (including load the Garmin SD) after I modified the bezel. Prior to my mod I had to basically chose between tilt up or tilt down by moving the unit slightly as I tightened the OEM brackets. I never could figure out how to use the brackets that cam with my kit, and I figure the radio is better bolted in.

By the way - everybody remember to set their PIN!
