    thanks buds!

63's certainly aren't the end all/be all of leaf springs, but they are:
    1) cheap
    2) flex incredibly well
    3) cheap
    4) excellent weight capacity with low lift
    5) cheap

FWIW I'm running 11" shortbody ADS shocks in the rear, near vertical inside the frame without cutting the bed, and can use the full range easily. If I had stock length leaf springs, I'd have the same setup with 10" shocks, so it's like an extra 1" of travel for free.

Right on... Did you run 3/4 ton springs or 1 ton?

    2+overload
    3+overload
    4+overload
Are you running any overloads at all? Hows axle wrap (if any).

    Any problems with hangups?

Umm, I thought when we were talking 10" shocks we were referring to the 10" of travel they provide. :notsure:

You are correct sir, shocks are referred to by the length of their travel. This is because different manufacturers have different length shock bodies, rod end configurations, top hats, etc etc.
My 11” short bodies are the same overall length when fully extended as a King or Fox 9” shock.

But I’m pretty sure you already knew all that…;)

Except, as with everything, shock size does not always equal the travel number. 9.5 shocks are called 10 inch (just example) And actual wheel travel depends on more than just the length of the shaft. Meaning you have other factors that come in to play.

A Solo XLT kit says you can achieve 19 inches of travel with it. Ya, that's possible, if you buy a long enough shock and cut half the front of your truck off. Which is why their XLT kit comes with 10 inch shocks, not 14 inch shocks and not 19 inch shocks. Will someone do it? Sure, maybe. But it's not realistic for the vast majority of people... neither is the 14 inches of travel on their LT kit (referred to earlier).

Rear travel example. I have more up travel available with my set up (on the shocks) but If I set up my bump stops to use the last 1/2 inch of up (wheel) travel, my tire will tear off my fender flare.

I guess my wording should have been more like this.

Shock size CAN be different than shock travel

Installed LED tail light bulbs and reverse bulbs. Still need to do turn signals as I was sent the wrong ones. Also, finally put an emblem on the front grill. Had to zip tie lower part as bottom pin snapped off on in stall. I think the PO replaces grill with A/M so some fit and finish issues. No Biggie- it doesn't effect performance more than losing .10 seconds off my 1/4 mile time. LOL

You’ll hang up on the bed before you hit the shackles. I’ve had 63s with 6 in shackles for years now and dropping off 4-6 ft ledges and rarely hit them. I hit my hitch mounted shackle more

What do you want to know about them. I’ve ran them with 12 in shocks under the bed and now with 12 in bypasses outside the frame. I have no regrets. Carry weight without squatting. Work well in the rocks and do well in the go fast.

    It's worth it.

That extra 6"(almost double stock) makes a HUGE difference. Oh and you're now just as wide as a 2nd gen/3rd gen taco. So width barely is an issue.

    FIFY

Shock travel is whatever the shock will actually do which as stated varies manufacture to manufacture. But a 9.5'' shock is never "called a 10" shock". Thats why there are published shock measurements for every shock out there.

Where you place the shock in relation to the wheel determines the travel you can get, also how you measure the wheel travel can have a small effect too.

This has been very entertaining. Thanks Gents!

    Are you a mountain man?

I just watched a show called "Mountain Men" on the History channel about a guy named Jake that drove a white 1st gen that hauled a couple of hounds in the back and chased mountain lions up trees.

It’s really pretty simple. Use the rear hanger with some 6 in shackles. Raise the front till it touches the frame. Tac hanger mount and assemble with just the main leaf and a spacer for the pack. Cycle to make sure it clears and measure for shocks with your choice of shock mounts.

Heavier tac weld on hanger. Assemble pack and put tires on and set on weight to check shackle angle (should be like 45 degrees), if good weld In hanger. If not move hanger forward or back or try shorter or longer shackle.
