Well they do like to take their time and imagine every possible scenario any of their equipment might ever be exposed to. They also like to make sure that 1-500 people check the torque on every single bolt. And before you know it 49 years have passed.

Also, according to this, the Moon is technically in Earth's atmosphere. I say we strip ALL people who have been declared Astronauts of their title and make that the new requirement. That means even if Bezos makes it to the moon he wouldn't get the title. He'd either have to push harder into space or wait for Elon to get setup on Mars and hitch a ride.

That’s hilarious. But kinda cruel in the post Shuttle era…

Still, 7 years later, it’s amazing how many have made it above breathable air..

Not sure you're going to pull much power from those temperatures, but it definitely reduces the need for power, especially when looking at the surface temperature of Mars. If they could find Lava on Mars though... Outside of lava that temperature doesn't fluctuate more than 10 degrees anywhere on Earth iirc.

Too bad Mars doesn’t have active volcanos. That would be a sight through an eyepiece…

I’m sure they’ll figure out how to max out every BTU they can.

I think if the engine fired, they would announce it, also looks like the docking antenna has issues

Looks like they raised both synodes, they'll be okay.

Eh, if 'astronaut' was defined by leaving the atmo (for some value of atmo) .. sure. We have zero.

That said, the FAA did define their astronaut to have been > 50mi and have been performing a crew (pilot/specialist) function.
