Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
There are a few trails out by me (not sure of op's location) that a non 4x4 vehicle would not be able to go, but they are legit fire roads that ATVs or other non road legal motor vehicles will catch you a big fine for driving.

They are considered roads, by the state.

Maybe it's a "road" like that.

Airbags are designed to increase safety and likelihood of survival during an accident. Random airbag deployment, while annoying, is almost certainly less traumatic than airbags + car accident.

I have seen a few videos of other trucks deploying their side curtain airbags randomly though. Remember when the Colorado ZR2 came out and people kept popping them on easy trails? Chevy had to recall and recalibrate.

"for no reason" is a bad statement. There was a reason. You may not know what it is. But there was a reason the air bags deployed.

This forum is ruthless, op. You can't just drop that "for no reason" and not provide any further data/evidence.

For what it's worth, I know the Chevy trucks had an actual issue with curtain airbags deploying on moderate off roading a few years ago. But there were *several* cases of that, including a few videos, demonstrating that this is an actual issue and not just some jackass being a jackass...

true but it does alleviate them from coming back, at least make it harder to repost bullshit threads

The "vehicle falling" one is what I'm thinking. OP said they deployed right as he "crested a peak". If he was going fast and got some air (or even just fully unloaded the suspension), that might cause the sensors to think the truck was falling (weightless) and deploy the bags.

We have a term for this in the bike industry: JRA.

Often someone will come in, looking for warranty work or just repair, on their catastrophically destroyed bike. Two taco'd wheels, chains wrapped around the frame, handlebars bent 90 degrees, etc.

9 times out of ten they say it happened while "just riding along."

This guy was "just driving along."

If your airbag spontaneously deployed, Toyota (big company) is going to want your vehicle to inspect the little black box to see what happened.

I work for the military.....the Security Forces reported a Chevrolet Tahoe that "ALL" of the airbags spontaneously deployed for no reason. I called Chevrolet and they wanted the vehicle immediately to investigate what could have been a significant safety issue/vehicle recall.

Needless to say, the air bags went off because the people driving the vehicle nearly rolled it over. Based on the recorded black box data, Chevrolet relayed the vehicle was at a significant side angle (up on two wheels) and the airbags went off to protect the occupants from imminent rollover. They somehow/luckily prevented the vehicle from rolling, but the airbags deployed as designed.

Not saying it can't happen, but hard to believe the bag spontaneously deployed. If it did, we can all expect a recall very soon!

Mods should temporarily lock the thread until homeboy comes back with more info. And if it comes back legit, unlock it so we can have a discussion about it. That way it doesn't climb up the algorithm and score higher on search results.

If there's a way to break it, Security Forces will find it.

Apparently we have a problem with SF opening their doors on the flight line while facing down wind, resulting in broken hinges and damaged front quarter panels.
