Run pc case fan on cig lighter question

Wanting overnight cracked window airflow and not using car fan which would drain battery after 5+ hours. Would this be okay: 80mm high speed pc case fan hooked up to the cig lighter. Fan draws 12v and .13 amps. Can someone here do the math and tell me if that could/would/might prevent my truck starting after about 5-6 hours…or, be fine? I plan to keep the fan wedged by rolling up the window to it. I wouldn’t use radio, etc. I suck at electrical math.

 

If you battery is good it shouldn't be an issue, however if your battery is getting weak it may kill it overnight.
0.13A (130mA) is just over the absolute maximum allowable parasitic draw current of 100mA (ideally should be 50mA or less).
If your just needing to do it a night or 2 you should be ok if your battery is good but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis without something to keep the battery charged.
Are you sleeping in the truck or why are you needing to ventilate it at night?

Maybe the First Gens are different, but I've never seen a Toyota (or any Japanese vehicle) that leaves the cigarette light energized when the engine is off. On my '06 Tundra, I had to jump a relay to get the two "Power Ports" to work with the engine off. Those looked like cigarette lighter ports, but were not rated for the 25 amps required to actually get the cigarette lighter hot enough to, uh, light a cigarette.

I'd check that before doing anything else.

 

I'd keep the key in on position, not really the issue.

With the key on you’re burning a lot more energy than the fan alone

 

I thought about this as an option to create airflow when camping. I have a second battery that I would run them off of, so I didnt have to worry about killing the starter battery. But a few people told me that they are loud, and dont move alot of air. The fan linked thats rechargeable is a much better option. And you only need to worry about the battery thats built in. Might even be able to run that off of a portable battery pack, if the internal battery dies.

Amp-Hrs (AH). How many amp-hrs is your battery rated for? Divide that number by 0.13 amps and you have hrs it will last. FWIW 0.13 A ain't nothing.

 

Key on means the entire truck is electrically live.

Have you considered using a basic window screen cut to fit, then leave the windows open??

 

Need to add the truck's parasitic draw to the 0.13 A.........then do your calculation.
