I think you’ll find the majority has gone that way, and see/have no problems. pretty much everyone has done that first and only moved to better earth then sometimes added a relay if they saw a problem. But one thing to note, the OEM wiring is about 24g (if I remember correctly, maybe 22g), which really isn’t enough to run all lights. So if you do go that route, you are pushing the limits of the wiring. (But for such a short period of time it probably isn’t a real concern). I only have relay for bed lights, not brake. The brake are on the OEM power.

I have the KC one but haven't put it in yet. My concern is what you said about the factory wiring being a smaller gauge wire and running all 5 lights. Reading thru this thread it doesn't sounds like anyone has had any issues with that so I guess I shouldn't worry about it. Also where are you guys running the ground to?

Its been a long time since I looked, but I don’t think the KC lights pulled as much power as BD. But you could run the calculations very easily. There is a ground by the rear seatbelt that seems to be what most use, but I don’t think people have done (or need to do) that with KC lights.

I grounded mine to the provided nut clip that holds on to the chassis.

Mine came with a plug but there were only 2 wires coming out of it and then a ground hoop. Maybe I will just hook it directly up to the factory one without the provided plug. That was my original plan to just snip the factory one and add a connector in case I had to remove it. Thanks for letting me know.

If anyone has a 3rd gen DC and wants to try out a plug and play option, I have a prototype board I'm trying to confirm will work which I'd be willing to send if someone is willing to test it out and confirm everything works properly. I'm thinking if it all works out there could be some reimbursement on my costs but that part can be somewhat optional based on how much of a PIA it is. If I got this dialed in, the cost would be about $20 shipped, they are rather expensive in small quantities.

I’m interested, but I’m not sure when I’ll be able to do the install.

Yeah, if I get some confirmation on this working I can order up a batch. So I kinda want someone who is going to do this sooner rather than later to work out the kinks.

I'm going to remove mine to paint them (KC5), I'm assuming this is for the BD models correct?

It would be for anyone with a DC who has not already sliced off their OEM connector.

I would be down to test it out, I still have my factory plug intact. I'm grounded to the clip nut currently, using Meso's provided 2 wire plug.

I did not take a picture of it unfortunately. Best way to explain the way it's currently grounded is the ring connector is being held in between the nut clip and the bolt threaded in holds it in place.

Yeah, I’m mostly curious to see the MESO plug part. In post #1 he mentions cutting off. Maybe there is a subsequent post with a photo of a connector?

I had used and connected the OEM wires to the positive and negative wires on the KC5 3rd brake lights. Mine works just fine, no issues. It's alittle bit of a challenge to do this method due to the OEM wires being such a small gauge wire.

This is the one I have and was curious why it didn't have all 3 wires.
