Honestly asking, do you have stats that show multiple 3rd gen V6 engines dying...any year and any mileage? And by multiples, I mean statistically significant numbers that align with how many of these are on the road. Not leaks, etc....actual new engine needed scenarios. Not trying to start an argument...but honestly want to know if I should sell it now before I too am stuck with a dead truck.

I hear what you're saying, and I agree with you up to a point. The difference is intent. You have a car with a bad widget, but you don't know it's bad. You take the car to Carvana, they miss the bad widget because they didn't do the proper due diligence. That's on them. You can't disclose what you don't know. Same car, same bad widget, but you know it's bad. You put widget goop in the car to temporarily mask the problem so Carvana doesn't catch it. They do the same crappy due diligence and again, they don't catch the bad widget. The car breaks down because of the bad widget, and when they do the repair they discover they bought the car with the bad widget but also realize they couldn't have caught it because of what you did to mask the problem. Depending on the state that's either fraud or deceit and you will at the very least have civil liability for the cost of the repair if Carvana decided to come after you for it. You have a legal obligation to accurately represent the condition of the vehicle to the buyer, and if you know of any condition that can materially affect the value you are obligated to disclose it. Your "as-is" theory works in the first scenario but not the second, because you purposely covered up a defect you knew about to deceive the buyer. Could you get away with it? Yea maybe. But not getting caught doesn't mean it's not dishonest.

Yeah it's definitely car derived. They put the 3.5L in for emissions purposes. If they could have kept the 4.0 I think they would have. The 4.0 is still being used in the 4Runner, hoping they don't use the 3.5L for the next generation.

Five pages in do we know what "motor failed" actually means yet?

They had to cite something or give a better diagnosis than that I would hope.

    Yeah.
Nah, just tired of hearing BS opinions that are just that, opinions. Not based on any facts. And ignoring the fact that the 3.5 is in the same family of motors as the 4.0. And is widely used across multiple vehicles. Failures like the OP's are uncommon.

You don't have to like it, and thinking it is mediocre is a valid opinion. My opinion, after having owned multiple 4.0's and now the 3.5, is that the 3.5 is a much more refined motor and does what I need it to do just as well or better than the 4.0. It strains less and gets better mileage when loaded for a long camping trip than my 2nd gen did. Do I wish it was a 4.7? Yeah, I do.

The operative word is "average". This was implied by your own use of "regularly see". You are looking at outliers as proof of the average, which is invalid.

No sensitivity here. I absolutely enjoy my 2020 over my old 2013. Limiting your mindset only limits yourself. The rest of us move on with our lives.

    No.

The 4.0 is the proper truck motor and the 3.5 is a shitty car/minivan engine, everybody knows that.

Sienna has more payload than the Tacoma by the way.;)

Might I see you proof/numbers that this is a trash engine in the Tacoma?
I hear a lot of negatives on here about the 3.5. But all I hear is opinions.
Show me a fact sheet that says the 3.5 is a trash engine.....

What does it do better then then the 4.0?

You must be the first person who has said the 4.0 strains more then the 3.5 when it comes to hauling. Anything more then a few hundred pounds in the back of my 3rd gen and the truck will barely stay in 6th gear on the highway.

"Hey Siri, how do overdrive gears work?"

Fun thing about personal anecdotes, is they're just as valid as opposing anecdotes.
I have 300+ pounds of overland bullshit bolted to my 3rd gen full time. I can hold 80 in 6th.

All of this has fuck-all to do with the OP.

Why would it be on a fact sheet? Did Toyota produce slicks for the new engine that powers god's chariot aka the 3rd gen?

Tunes exist and people dote on about them all the time on TW. Those facts exist that the engine is such a turd in stock form that it needs a tune just to have normalcy.

We never saw this level of bullshit with the 1st and 2nd gen, the hopes that some aftermarket company would intervene to give them what Toyota couldn't.

Ultimately if Toyota offered the 3rd gen with the option to be equipped with a 4.0L or the 3.5L, most people would take the 4.0

    doesn't have a 6th.

Stays in 5th no problem and the truck has bigger tires and a small lift.
