Am I the only one around who thinks McGregors Proper Twelve Irish whisky tastes like sour ass?

Def a shooting / party whiskey for me. It’s a topic starter when I bring out the bottle I got gifted.

Didn’t really get that from my bottle. This was one where I felt the Breaking Bourbon review was dead on in the description…the oak and rye really come through. Not my favorite bottle, but an interesting addition.

Not exactly the same. I had the small batch and it was decent, but so are a lot other bottles.

Wife made it home from Kentucky (and Wisconsin), and brought me a few surprise bottles with a Spotted Cow kicker. The BT is one of my favorites, and the ECBP is from a different batch than I have already…so will have to compare the A and the B. The others are all new to me, but really looking forward to trying them all, especially that Old Carter. Going to be a good weekend.

I’ve heard great things about the Old Carter. I want a bottle at some point. Let us know what you think whenever it gets cracked

I bet you're going to love that New Riff.

FACT: Their Rye Whiskey is my favorite spirit...in fact... I'm going to get a pour right now.

EDIT: Hi everyone, I don't think I've posted in this thread before...only been a lurker...time to change that!

    Cheers!

So a friend of mine stopped by and brought me a bottle of Sazerac Rye. Took him bourbon shopping and lucked out and grabbed the E.H Taylor before he did.20210724_193357.jpg

So my Saturday evening involved a blind tasting that my wife set up for me. Poured them off into a Glencairn before tasting as the colored cordial glasses she used weren’t the best for sipping (or seeing).
    6CA88C05-A479-417D-90F3-38507A1B2609.jpg
Damned if I could pick any of them right…went 0 for 6 and was totally shocked. In any event, think the Down Home and New Riff wound up being my favorites, but am questioning my palate after that effort. The Old Carter (Batch 10) really stood out…as the sweetest and most lush of the bunch (almost syrupy by comparison), and it really didn’t drink like the second highest proof of the lot. Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that. Really thought she must have gotten them mixed up, but a full pour proved that not to be so. Tried a full pour of the Riff, too…just to be sure.

Had to sample a couple Advil this morning.

Great wife you have! Need to search for the New Riff as I have heard good reviews.
