To shift to a higher gear you push the knob up. Always thought this was backwards and just realized my CX-5 S mode is opposite than the Tacoma. Makes more sense to me to push knob up for a lower gear and down for a higher gear.

Kinda like on a plane you push forward to go down and towards you to go up?

It might make sense to you but that’s not the way it is. Up (+), down (-). Same logic as Ford Selectshift, upshift button (+) downshift button (-). I came from a Ford so it seemed normal to me.

I'm just going by how you would normally shift a manual from lowest gear to next higher(knob down)

    Let me see.

You stated your issue with S-Mode but didnt really ask if anything had been done to remedy the programming or if an alternative was available. So unless you have come up with a solution yourself to the issue that you brought up.

Its just another thread with somebody bitching with no real purpose other than to bitch.

Guess your right, pretty self explanatory.

    Work in progress...
I had a real hard time adjusting because my wife's X-3 was pull back to go faster and slam forward to slow down. Pull back to go faster and slam forward to down shift is hard wired in my brain as a motorcycle rider. I agree, Toyota has the shift direction wrong.

Sequential shifter is forward for up and back for down. That’s the correct way and what Toyota is trying to mimic. (Which I agree is opposite to a manual gearbox 1 to 2, but not 2 to 3 or 4 to 5).

Up means up. Down means down. Sounds logical to me.

what retarded POS MC have you been riding? Up is faster and down is slower (gear wise). If you are shifting with your heal on some cruiser, then I agree, get a real bike.

Seriously this is like arguing that the Ferrari 308 shift pattern is correct, and just about every other vehicle ever made is wrong (including most other Ferrari’s).
