I think I maybe thought the Pen's cap situation was a little better than it is lol. I just saw on Twitter that we were over the cap by about 3mil before the trade and expansion draft. So that is probably where they freed up $ for ZAR, like you said. ZAR needs to be like 2.5mil, IMO.

I’m wondering if they grab Eichel, someone off the Lightning through trade, and possibly offer sheet someone like Pettersson. Seems like they have tons of cap to play with and the ownership is cash flush. They have to be lining up for something given the assets they passed on.

I do think Francis really goofed in over pricing the ability to protect players. Asking a first and third was crazy. Asking just a third could of stacked assets for some large scale moves. Now he will have to deal from his prospect pool or leverage his cap space to make things happen.

I agree 100% on his asking prices being too high, when bargaining on exposed players. Trying to get top dollar on those moves, rather than collecting assets, seems like a bad plan. It would be different if they were sitting there with a stacked roster, but they are not.

As far as additions, moving forward, that makes sense. I'm not sure they have the assets to grab Eichel in a trade but I agree that they have some options to ad some nice pieces.

You have to be a subscriber of the athletic to read the article but the general point is nobody thought Vegas had a good team coming out of the draft including the deals they made they were projected to be an 85 point team and had the Vegas odds attached that agreed with that.

Comparing their roster with the Kraken roster it's built similarly with the Kraken actually having a higher wins above replacement score and a better projected final points.

1 thing that stands out to me here is like most analytics, that is very misleading. Look at the Gams-score rating of Fleury compared to Driedger. Is there anyone that walks this earth that thinks Driedger is even on MAF's level? Hopefully not. But according to that chart, Seattle got a superior goaltender (and they obviously did not.) They do have a deeper goalie group than Vegas, but also lack a proven #1 star goalie. We will see how that plays out bt it's hard to argue what MAF has done for Vegas. That being said, while those numbers may look like the forwards are similar, I think most would agree that Vegas' forward group is much better. That is what stands out to me, looking at the 2 rosters side by side. And then of course Vegas also made moves (and stacked assets through bargaining pre-draft, which Seattle didn't really do.) I still see potential in Seattle. Like I said, I like their D and if goaltending meets expectations, they can be ok if they play to that system. Get 2 star forwards in there and they can be in the mix.

The article talked at length about Goalies and Driedger specifically, even with regression he should be a solid option. Keep in mind those analytics were right after the Vegas expansion draft.

True. I'm not going to sit here and say that I thought William Karlson was gonna score 40, right at the draft lol. But I still think the Vegas forward group seems better, even at the time of the Vegas draft. And I have no issue w/ Driedger and all signs point to him PROBABLY being a good #1. But still a pretty small sample size. I personally would've wanted 1 proven guy in that group. Daccord as a young prospect is great though.

Newsflash: The Vancouver Canucks have acquired defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and forward Conor Garland from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, a 2022 second-round pick, a 2023 seventh-round pick and forwards Loui Eriksson, Jay Beagle and Antoine Roussel.

Carolina Hurricanes traded goalie Alex Nedeljkovic to the Detroit Red Wings for a 3rd round pick and “rights” to pending UFA Jonathan Bernier. WTF! Tight ass owner Tom Dundon offered $1.5 million, Ned gets $3 million a year for 2 years with the red wings. He wants a bargain club not a Stanley cup. Pathetic, Ned is one of the rising stars in hockey. Red wings stole that one from a sucker. We need a new owner who knows hockey!

I'm kinda worried about our goaltending situation... our best goalie ever just called it a career.

Fleury traded just to get rid of his salary. A shocking move for a future hall of famer. I still think he has plenty of good games left in him. We will see if this dump motivates him to up his game next season.

Supposedly he had no idea it was going to happen either. His agent was caught completely blind.

I read that. Really disrespectful. I can't understand why Vegas' management did not give him the courtesy of a head's up. And he says he does not wish to play in Chicago. I know what a good teammate he is, well like everywhere he plays. Things like this can disrupt chemistry.
