Confession time: I'm a skeptic. My training and career as a quantitative scientist forces me to take empirical observations with a grain of salt.

Having said that, I'm not going to shit on others over what they saw. Or at least I'll try my best to not shit on others. :anonymous:

The simple fact was I wasn't there, so who am I to say it didn't happen? And also I don't need to know the plausibility to enjoy a good story. I think of it as the Schrodinger's cat of storytelling: maybe it was a crypto, maybe it was a deformed goat screaming into the night. Maybe it happened, maybe it didn't. It doesn't hurt my ego if I can't process it.

I don't know, and it doesn't really matter if I know because the story is still an enjoyable read. Nature is weird, and weird shit happens in nature. Sometimes you just can't explain what's howling through the woods.

Don't worry about the skeptics. Keep telling stories. That's what makes this thread cool.

Strange and unusual adventure #2 . In post #2833 I told ya all I’d post a couple of my strange and unusual experiences over my lifetime of hunting, fishing and backpacking in the wilderness which I’ve been doing for over 50 years. These are not presented in any chronological order. The following is my UFO experience. I’ve had two but the second one is nothing compared to this one. This took place in 1970 when I was in college. It was June, beginning summer break from college and my friend Lance and I decided to go for a 2 day backpacking trip before we started summer jobs in a week. We hiked into this N Cal reservoir named Lake Don Pedro. It was a part of the lake not accessible by road. Easy hike about 1 1/2 hours. We just wanted to get away , fish, swim, relax.

Since it was a short easy hike we brought stuff we wouldn’t ordinarily. Each brought a 6 pack of beer and some cheap wine. Packed in some steaks for dinner the first night. Anyway to cut to the story that night we were sitting by the campfire looking out over the lake enjoying our cheap wine when we both noticed something in the sky. Across the horizon from our right (West) a bright white lighted round object moving at incredible speed. Then straight out in front of us it came to a sudden stop. Hard to tell exactly but I’d estimate it was between 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. No sound, just a bright round like a ball object. It just sat there. Then a little while later it started slowly pulsating brighter and dimmer. Then it started moving up and down and still pulsating. Needless to say we were scared shitless and there was nothing we could do. After awhile we turned away from the object looking in the opposite direction. But that made us even more uncomfortable not knowing what it was doing, so we turned back.

After maybe 15 minutes of the pulsating up and down movement it stopped moving. Then the light got super bright, I thought maybe it was going to explode. We jumped up and ran behind a big oak tree. When we looked out at it , it took off across the horizon. It went from stop to instant hyper speed and disappeared in about 3 or 4 seconds. Never saw it again or anything like it. We didn’t share this experience with anyone until several months afterwards.

I have no idea what it was and I won’t venture any guesses here. It was an unidentified flying object that performed like nothing known to or created by man. I won’t say it was from space, another universe, or another dimension. I don’t know what it was or where it came from. The story is true, it really happened. Draw your own conclusions. If any of you have questions about it please ask. If I can answer , I will.
My friend Lance now lives in Australia but we still stay in touch. When we send emails to each other we always end them with - The truth is out there, may the force be with you (tag lines from a tv show and a movie) . It’s just our reminder of our shared and unique experience back in 1970.

I have maybe 2 more unusual wilderness experiences I’ll share in the near future if you all like.

Having owned a red bone hound for many years now I can say that sounds like one of them. Mine still comes up with some weird howls every now and then and often time sounds like he’s yodeling. I can’t say for a fact that’s what this sound is but after he isolated it, it favors a hound dog.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I will also note the two porcupines "mating" (or attempting to) sounds like a blood curdling child's scream.

That sound is a little like the one i described in my prior post but different. Mine was more of a roar but I can’t really adequately describe it. One of the things that separated it from an animal sound was the duration, it was 30 to 40 seconds long. Most all animal roars, howls, screams are short duration, a few seconds. I know of no North American animal that could make a single roar for 40 seconds or so. In any event if I was to hear the same sound as on that recording and I was 50 miles from another human out in the boonies, it would scare the crap out of me.

Here’s little strange happening that my closest friend recently told me about. My friend is a former Naval combat pilot, flew corporate jets after the navy and retired from the aviation industry where he was an executive. When he was flying corporate he flew very powerful well known people. Former US president’s, Sec of state and other well known powerful people. He related the following to me and my wife. My wife and I were telling him about a recent trip we took through Nevada which we drove on the Extraterrestrial Highway which runs by Area 51. He told us the following. (I do not know the date) he was flying a few such vip’s from the east coast to the west coast. Due to either weather, turbulence or air traffic (don’t recall which one) he requested permission from Area 51 control to change his route and fly over Area 51. I assume because of the people who were on the plane he was granted permission. Because of the people who he regularly flew he had a very high security clearance. Said he was well known to the secret service who knew his history better than he knew it. He said he was flying at 600mph over Area 51 when something passed him fairly close on the left side of the plane. It was traveling fast maybe 2, 3, or more times the speed of his plane. He saw it, his copilot saw it and 2 passengers saw it. It was traveling so fast he couldn’t make out what it was.

Just when it was about to disappear from sight it went vertical. One second it was same heading as him and the next it was climbing vertical. It disappeared from sight about a couple seconds later.
He had it on his radar also very briefly. He immediately radioed Area 51 traffic control and reported what happened. After several seconds they radioed back that there were no air traffic in his area and haven’t been. He radioed back and said he, copilot, and 2 passengers saw it. After a long pause he was told there were no aircraft in the area and the incident he described did not happen. They made it clear it didn’t happen and any further discussion on the subject was terminated.
He is a known expert in the aviation industry and he says no known aircraft could do what that (ufo)craft did. He has no idea what is was. Can’t or won’t venture a guess.
Just an interesting little story you all can make of it what you will. Strange inexplicable stuff happens.

NASA was shutdown in 2011 with a cryptic reasoning as to why. This century UFO/UAP sightings have skyrocketed. Why ride a tricycle when you have a crotch rocket?

I'm not worried at all about skeptics.... It's just gotten to be old hearing the same ole mocks and scoffs, leading to circular one way not really convos with people who think they have life/earth/and everything else figured out..... When the reality is they're so far in the dark it's beyond ridic...

It's literally on the level of a human being full of life's seasonings and experiences, trying to relay information to a smart ass little turd know it all child.... You try and tell the child DO NOT grab the boiling pot off the stove it will burn you badly..... They laugh, they prance around like you're a fool....... Until the day, they grab the handle of boiling hot water off the stove onto themselves, then and only then they learn, the hard way...
There's really not much different in my eyes with all of this..... Because they don't learn until they experience.

Doe's anyone "truly" think for a second that everyone, has nothing better to do, than to "make up "stories" to entertain people.... Much of which knowing the BS responses much of the time you get from it???
Really, if people (skeptic/scoffers) were genuinely intelligent as tho so think they are.... That oughta be sitting in the forefront of their mental check list.

But thanks for being respectful in your approach to things you don't have a way of explaining.

Last but not least. I'm not anti science, but there's many faults within the science community.... Things/people(scientist) that many have withheld as gospel in their own right, prove later to be so far off base and not close to being the real reality of whatever... But in the times where those were held to "truth" etc......., all those who spoke otherwise and didn't ride the bandwagon of said things, were ridiculed and black balled off into the quack/crazy/idiot/blah blah categories...... Yet who was right all along?

Thank you, once again for sharing your encounter...
I actually recently had an unexplainable event with lights on top of a mountain.. Not quite like what you described tho. That would've been something else.

So does mating tortoises... Well not quite blood curdling, more like, wish you'd never heard/seen.

As a side note and something to take into consideration when absorbing a story. The New England area, eastern seaboard, and across the middle under and around the Great Lakes is basically “old country” for the ‘civilized’ US. Here tales go back hundreds of years and honestly anything intelligent and wild would have fled west and south ahead of the flood of immigrates. First American tales hold more water, IMHO, than a lot of these more modern observations. Because who are they trying to impress or shock and awe with a story? Nobody. Now that most of North America is settled the free range has gotten very small.

Yeah, that's a good way of looking/thinking at some possibilities...
I, like you, like to listen to older stories and especially some from the native tribes... One reason being, with them being so immersed in nature and really tuned into it... There's a lot to be said about a culture of people who have been born and raised in the bush... And on that note, that would be another way of contrasting their abilities in nature, with say someone today who lives in the city having hardly ever been to the woods.... A clear night and day difference... Someone raised like that, would be so far beyond the awareness and abilities of a "city slicker", that it'd be a joke to think of comparing them...

Now thinking in those ways, imagine a creature of the bush (like squatch), with an apparent high intelligence (based of countless encounter testimonies) and contrast it with a variety of people and their wide range of abilities etc..
IMO, I'd say that a creature like this, would far exceed anyone in nature in every way, evasion, stalk, concealment, you name it.... If there's truth to the potential of them being inter dimensional (that'd obviously be a WHOLE other league).... And from many other these testimonies, it sounds like that's probable.... i.e. Testimonies of people Tracking the foot prints in snow and they disappear with no surrounding logical means for it to be possible etc.

    Another example.
Dogs can smell many times better than humans (most everyone knows that hopefully by now), what if Squatch smells scents even better than a K9.

    Hearing.
    Could have extremely good hearing.

    Eye Sight

    etc etc

I watched bits and pieces of it. Looks interesting. Gonna be a while until I have 5 plus hours to commit to watching it. I don’t know that I’ve ever watched anything for 5 hours.
