I have my 85 Toyota to let the kids learn on. I love dumping the clutch on that thing and breaking traction. I drive it like I stole it. Little old rice burners are really fun. I haven’t started abusing my new one yet.

I miss the old trucks without traction control and the rest of the computer junk.

Not unusual to have a battery too weak to turnover the starter yet still have enough voltage to bump start it, even with an alternator, I’ve done that many times with older vehicles with alternators with manual transmission. Haven’t done it with a Tacoma with modern electronics but one post in this thread said they have. That makes sense to me as long as the voltage is high enough to run the electronics.
By the way back in the 60’s I saw my dad and others push start automatics which had alternators, had to get up to a fairly high speed. Pretty sure you can’t do that with modern automatics.

Old Chrysler automatics had a rear pump and could be push started, the rear pump was eliminated for the 1966 model year. It was reasoned that improved electrical systems had reduced the need to push start the vehicle -- and naturally it was a cost savings.

The 3rd Gen 6 Speed is a nice upgrade over the 2nd Gen 6 Speed, much smoother.

Ok, I gotta start somewhere so I'm starting with you shakerhood (You seem to be a SME based on your messages lol); I just discovered four days ago on this forum about an after market product called "Sprint Booster". Seems its all the rage and makes your Tacoma zipstart and I'm about to pull the trigger on this purchase. I always wondered what happened to my incredible "quick starts" when the light turns green from previous Toyotas I've owned. It's so sluggish and I hate this. This Sprint Booster Is $300 and their website says it takes 10-15minutes to install. Do you, or anyone else reading this know if this thing is legit or a bunch of BS ?

Most of the people on this Forum would choose one of the "Tunes" over one of these Boosters that basically mimic you pressing harder on the accelerator.

My Taco is an auto, but I prefer a manual simply because my first vehicle (‘63 Chevy 1/2 ton) had a 3 on the tree and I’ve had a class A commercial license since ‘84. To me it’s old school and part of the essence of driving, especially a truck... and it’s a skill few now have. Enjoy MTs while you can, the EPA will eventually make manufactures get rid of em. My Harleys are all manual.

my first experience with the factory driveability of the Tacoma MT was so poor that i almost sold the truck new. the Pedal commander, same as the Sprint booster, saved me, and i have a lot of appreciation for that thing, but it was wonky at best. then came the early MT tunes about a year later with the OV tunes and later the vF tunes which are current now. this is the way to go. skip the Sprint booster and get yourself tuned. Coyoza tune is the way to go for the MTs. some prefer others.

and if you want to get into really opening up the motor, you can do it through exhaust work, this motor responds really well to it. be done with all the factory muting & restrictions in the software & hardware..

I've never had an issue with getting rolling in my 21. It's plenty snappy off the line. It's way faster to respond than my 00 was. My gas mileage suffers because of my lead foot, but it is too fun. I may get it tuned at some point in the future, but I haven't felt the need.

Because i figured the smaller '21 3.5 ltr engine could use it to help with ooomph vs. my previous '12 TRD pro which had a 4 ltr. My '02 SR5 had a MT (and roll down windows lol) and never needed a replacement clutch... my streebikes always had manual transmissions too lol.

You can turn off TC by pressing the TC button for about 4-5 seconds.

Ok sounds like the Coyoza tune is the way to go based on you and many others satisfaction. Do you have a point of contact I can order from ? 1-800 number ? Anything hell I want this thing.

@mZiggy can point you in the right direction. he's the tune creator for Coyoza, but he's not the one providing the tuning service any longer... hold tight and you'll get the info soon.

also seeing you have a long history of MT trucks, you'll definitely want to do this as a first step with your new tune to get the truck in your hands (and feet): https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mt-accumulator-delete-mod-adm-and-bs-thread.568303/

You can reach @chanvchau / Chan Chan at his personal FB page or via the Coyoza_Tuning Facebook page using Messenger.

Alternatively, you can still acquire it directly from me locally in El Paso, TX as a flash service. But I no longer own the Coyoza tunes nor the brand. As @su.b.rat said, I'm no longer the provider of the tune. If you are not in El Paso, TX then the proper way to get the tune is to contact Chan/CVC to either purchase the file or get linked up with someone within their network to tune your truck.

you'd almost never know it by hanging around and believing the trash talked on TW especially by the AT crowd... but this truck has tons 'o balls to uncover. the ADM and tune are just the beginning.
