Didn't see a response to someone's previous question, but has anyone put this in a 2020 or 2021 tacoma yet? I believe the wiring harness changed for the newer model years.

I believe https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...id-head-unit-complete-plug-n-play-kit.702323/ in the 3rd gen forum might have better answers.

I have direct experience with the Dasaita/2013 variation only, however I believe that Dasaita makes a wide range of adapters to allow for integration in a vast number of vehicle configurations. If you already have a marketplace in mind for your purchase, you would be able to get a more detailed answer to your questions by asking the vendor rep directly. They usually want to know things like JBL/non-JBL, rear camera, SWC config, etc. in order to tell you the appropriate harness/adapter/converter modules to buy. Almost all these Android HU products have a wide degree of flexibility, but with that flexibility comes the headache of navigating through the tradeoffs and options. Good luck.

So..... I haven't seen it questioned or answered yet. Do these units require a cell phone to work properly? I live in BFE, I try to travel to west BFE, AND...... avoid cell phones unless the person who pays for it calls.

My oem units have served me well, but I always like to shop for neat truck stuff ! ;)

If you mean the network connection via cell phone, then it is not a requirement. However a great deal of the functionality that is made available with the android approach leverages networking.

If you want to stay persistently disconnected, then carrying your music with you by loading in internal memory or using a USB drive works like any other. The radio works as expected although the default radio app is serviceable at best. The upside is that the universe of android applications are available to improve the experience.

I'll occasionally tether to the cellphone as a hotspot when I'm traveling, but for the most part my use is disconnected. I like to use Spotify as my primary music engine. When my truck is garaged, it is in good range for my home WiFi network. I use the offline function of Spotify to download and manage music when the truck is connected on startup in the garage. If I give it about 150-200 secs it can look for any updated playlists and bring down new music before I drive off. I can start playing music immediately and it disconnects gracefully when I drive off from the network. I like to use Spotify to listen for new music when I'm on the back porch enjoying a cigar and medicinal alcohol. If I hear something I like, I'll select the currently playing song and add it to my "Driving" playlist. Spotify will handle sync with the truck while connected at home.

Thank you for the detailed answer! That actually helps!

I'm a little butthurt by the fact I can't just push a CD into these new units!

Has anybody discovered software that will remotely configure the unit? I would like software that I could upload the current configuration and files and run it on blue stacks (https://www.bluestacks.com/). Then when I am back in my truck, it downloads the new config and reboots the unit.

Or software that will do desktop sharing with the unit. The software that I have tried is buggy.

That way I do not have to spend hours in the truck configuring it.

I'm a rank amateur, but after jumping through a few hoops was able to get the Android Debug Console working. This doesn't address giving you the external simulator to run the Dasaita ROM, but without the bridge there is no real hope of leveraging any external environment. I know there are folks over on XDA that are making their own custom ROMs for this platform so there must be some way to do this. But from my experiments I get the feeling it is not using standard Android development tools and therefore being able to leverage them for external configuration is going to be riddled with hacks.

While these devices leverage a lot of what's in Android, they also have a lot of proprietary extensions that don't have uniform (or even published) APIs. For example, the GPS in a phone works different that the dual GNSS system onboard the radio. The sound system is a 4 channel amplifier with DSP. The FM/AM radio is an integrated circuit with configurable tuning/signal processing. All the proprietary hardware requires the vendor providing software that can integrate into the general Android environment. There is some consistency in the PX6 and MCU configurations that have a large enough audience that developers are making solutions (like the launchers) that can provide enhanced functionality for some classes of the proprietary hardware in the radios.

I don't think there is ever going to be an easy outboard way to configure and experience the environment. All the stuff in the CAR configuration is just too dependent on the hardware to simulate. You might be able to run your favorite launcher in an emulator and configure graphics, screen layout, navigation, etc. However to truly exercise it will require being in front of the HU. If money were no object, you could buy a second unit and run it off 12V from the comfort of your recliner;-).

A wild card that is itching in my brain is using a remote access for android. Still would need to keep the unit in the truck powered up, but something like a Splashtop streamer on Android might allow sitting in your recliner with laptop and favorite can of cold programming fluid to allow for easier/extended configuring sessions.

Kind of stumped here, if anyone can help, I have the ability to get to the 126 factory settings and I have matched everything in the canbus tab to a previous posters screenshot. However, my steering wheel "previous track" and "next track" buttons are still backwards from the factory settings. Volume up and down works fine. It's just that skipping to the next track actually restarts the current playing one for me. The screen where it should allow me to remap is still blank.

Check out the "key study" tab. You can assign a SWC to any action you desire.

Let's try this again. Select the Key Study from this screen:
    Screenshot_20211014-111546.jpg
You will be able to assign actions to the various steering wheel controls. There is a short press action and a long press action for each recognized steering wheel control. You want to press the SWC and then you can select from a list of actions that you want the key to send.

When you get to the second screen, you should then be able to press any of your steering wheel control buttons. It will give you a two part box that allows you to define a short press and long press action for the selected button.

If you are not getting a response from the steering wheel controls, then you need to make sure that your harness is correctly identified. For the CANBUS users, it needs to have the appropriate harness adapter and then when the CANBUS is activated you need to select the right vehicle family on the Dasaito (I believe it was the Camry family IIRC).

My experience with the 2013 non-JBL flavor was that I was able to use a CANBUS adapter approach and activate all the steering wheel controls. However I did not really require the aux backup camera input so I ended up removing the adapter and using the basic resistance mode of SWC. That worked for me and simplified the wiring.

While on that screen that says to press the steering wheel buttons, it does nothing. No response from the skip track buttons, volume + - works as normal on that screen. I do have the Canbus identified as Toyota Camry as suggested. I believe the harness is correct because the volume buttons are working and the skip track does work while playing USB music or Spotify but like I said they are reversed in what they do. I guess I can get used to it, I was just trying to retain the original functions.

Dude - sorry you're having to go through this. It's no fun trying to find the secret code to just make things work.

If you have the stomach for it, I would recommend the following: Just to help in isolating the potential problem area, remove the CANBUS harness from the equation and restart the unit (the default harness should work fine - even on CANBUS audio enabled trucks). Go into settings and change the CANBUS setting to none. Go into the Steering Wheel Key section and press a SWC to see if it presents the option to program it. If it does, then proceed with all the keys that are available. Then you can go exercise with the application of your choice to see if you get the actions you expect.

If this works, then it means something is suspect in the CANBUS harness area and there are some diagnostics to try in that area. If it doesn't work then I would focus on the radio interface point itself. Something in the family of bent pins or poorly terminated wiring.

Thank you for your detailed help, I really appreciate it. I'm actually going to pull the unit sometime next week so that I can plug my original in because I forgot to remove a CD before I swapped the head unit. I will definitely take advantage at that time and fully inspect wiring and other options. Thanks again!

Did either of you, or any one else find out if there is a harness that works with the 2020/21? I believe it is the same connection as 2018+ Camry's.

    UPDATE-
Asked Dasiata via their Amazon store and they got back in a day saying they have the canbus for a 2021 and just wanted a picture to confirm.

However, I will probably go with a Joying unit for the optical output, even though I like the look of this unit more without the knob.

    COOL Stuff I can't afford . . . But I bought anyway!
Hi all, I just finished my stereo instal today, I yanked a perfectly good Dasaita out of my 2019 Pro. It had all the connectors, canbis, steering wheel controls adapters and connections for the USB’s, and audio ports. All the gps antennas. It worked well but I wanted something that played nicer with Apple. It does have wireless CarPlay. it just works better with android.

Anyway, I’m selling it as is with all the parts minus the mounting bracket because I reused it for the pioneer.

If you’re interested, pm and we can talk about pricing.

I also have the oem sub box, and rear cab panels for sale. Sub box is loaded with an mb quarts shallow 8”.

For those who are still running this HU, if you were on the market for a new HU today, would buy again this dasaita 10 HU or spend almost double and go for a let’s say pioneer HU?

i kinda want to know if this HU is worth it considering all the issues that might come with it

I would still stick with an android unit because when it annoys me I can always fall back to wireless AA, which is the same as what I would get on a more expensive brand name that comes with smaller screens and nag messages. What annoys me about the Dasaita is the volume control. I might go Joying for the knobs if I had to do it again, assuming those are just analog attached directly to the amp (as opposed to anything digital that has to be dialed in increments)
