    ========================
I’m going to try and keep this part short because I know most won’t read it, but I’ll link to my intro thread here for those that are curious enough to read a backstory:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-tacoma-owner.702763/

I hesitate to call this a “build” because well, I’m not really building anything… more like buying everything! Nevertheless, I’ve decided to create a thread to document and share my progression as I modify this taco to my liking. My only wheeling experience comes in the form of riding quads/dirt bikes and I am eager to take this thing off road and see what it can do!

Mission: Convert this daily driver (and now family car) into a fun weekend off roader that will be at home on the back country roads as it is on the pavement. I expect any wheeling that I will be doing to be relatively tame, and I do a lot of camping/hiking but do so out of a backpack, so no RTT in the plans as of now. Onto the pictures…

April 30th 2021 I took deliver of my TRD Pro in Lunar Rock with 6-speed manual trans. The only factory option I added was the locking tailgate, which due to some hiccups during negotiation I was able to add on for free.

First time I took this pretty lady home:

    upload_2021-7-16_14-17-58.jpg
    upload_2021-7-16_14-18-10.jpg

As you can see, I was delivered a TRD Pro with the TRD Off Road bedside stickers accidentally applied… What some are calling the “Mexican Special” :facepalm:So first order of business was to remove the stickers and get the proper sterile bedside look:

    upload_2021-7-16_14-18-19.jpg

Next was installing all the small mods I had piling up in my garage that I ordered while waiting for my truck to be built. Don’t judge :spy: Just the usual stuff that most people start off with:

    Heritage grille emblem:
    upload_2021-7-16_14-18-33.jpg
    upload_2021-7-16_14-18-44.jpg

Meso Map lights and door handles:
    upload_2021-7-16_14-19-0.jpg

Center counsel and glove box organizers:

    upload_2021-7-16_14-19-32.jpg

Rigid amber fog light covers and grille lights:
    upload_2021-7-16_14-19-51.jpg

Next I added all of the other factory options that I wanted but didn’t want to overpay for… Bed mat, door sill protectors, bed lighting:

Took the Taco on it’s first road trip to the west side of the state. I did get to put her in 4x4 for the first time and play in the sand a little, but the pregnant wife put an end to that real quick.

    upload_2021-7-16_14-21-26.jpg

Next came some of the big ticket items :spending:

    upload_2021-7-16_14-21-51.jpg

Diamondback SE went on pretty easy:

    upload_2021-7-16_14-22-3.jpg

New shoes! Definitely an upgrade from the stock Goodyear Wranglers:

My first sighting of a Lunar Rock 4Runner TRD Pro in the wild… Ended up next to the guy in traffic. A mutual subtle head nod of approval and thumbs up before we went our separate ways :hattip:

Started to slowly build up a cache of recovery gear. Not only for the trails but for the Michigan winters. I couldn’t tell you how often I come across people stuck in culverts, snow banks, etc. in my neck of the woods.

Next on the agenda was sliders. My wife said “you need steps on this truck”. To which I promptly complied… Well sorta lol. Rock sliders can be considered “steps”, am I right?

    upload_2021-7-16_14-24-51.jpgupload_2021-7-16_14-24-51.jpg

Westcott Designs 20 degrees sliders. BOY these things are nice!

Which brings me to where the Taco after about 3 months of ownership

Thanks man! Definitely happy with the color choice. I felt like I was going out on a limb when it came to choice of color having never seen it in person,
but so far it seems to be a crowd pleaser.

    I know how that goes!
I told the stealership my wish list, she asked color preference… I said “no red or blue, think I’d be happy with anything else.”

In the end I’m so thankful I got the Barcelona red it’s much different than I thought in person.

agreed! I’m a big fan of Barcelona red as well. If you haven’t already, check this guy’s build out, one of the best Barcelona’s I’ve seen so far:

    Added an S&B intake :burnrubber:
    upload_2021-7-21_16-17-26.jpg
Really gives the truck an aggressive growl! I’m sure TRD intake does the same thing... You would think it would come stock with the Pro like the TRD exhaust does :notsure:

I have not seen that color, nice. I have the s&b with my mbrp exh. Love it. Loud as crap and drone on the highway , but cool when I stomp on it.

thanks man! I still feel like this truck is pretty quiet on the highway, maybe the MBRP exhaust is louder than the TRD? Or I could just have a skewed point of view because I used to drive an import tuner with an aftermarket exhaust, and THAT was way louder!

Continuing with the underbody protection streak, had my first application of Krown rust proofing today. I was pretty impressed with the thoroughness of the application process.
