Then we started my front diff



4.10 diff removed. Locked 5.29 diff installed. Probably going to pack it in and leave it for the night. We can finish up tomorrow... been blazing hot all day.

 

Can you clarify what you mean when you say connect 2 wires together? I'm thinking it's something like taking a 2"-3" piece of wire, stripping both ends, and sticking each end into each of your marked terminals on the same side, then connecting the harnesses together (ensuring the wire is still connected inside both terminals). I did this for another car to eliminate the airbag light from staying on when installing an aftermarket steering wheel (called it a "jumper"). Am I correct? Is there a "better/proper" way of doing this?

I have an '04 and using taillights made for '96-'00.

Finished my frame with POR-15. This was the first time I have used this paint, really good stuff. Worth the money, In my opinion

Replaced both radiator hoses, only to find my radiator has a crack that was also leaking. So now I need a new radiator. Not happy

 

Snorkel done. Also replaced an air/fuel sensor.

 

My Rock Sliders are in-place. Painting tomorrow.

Tore apart a 3rd set of spindles (my old Prerunner spindles) to get brake backers for the spare set of manual hub spindles I'm building.

 

Well... those are ready.





Such a pain in the ass.

 

Applied OEM-like TRD Off Road bed decals and installed a plug and play Curt Trailer Wiring Harness.

 

Put a Light bar in the grill, love how this rig is turning out!

 

At least you took the time to put them in the right place and not up at the top next to the bedrail. Looks good!

 

Clutch pedal wouldnt come all the way back up as of today, had at least an inch of wet noodle play before it would hit the cruise control switch by manually pulling it up.

Popped off the torsion spring on the clutch and replaced it with a 7/16 x 5" x 0.55 linear spring from hardware store. The #70 spring I saw mentioned about it seems to be 2x too big (9"), maybe thats just for 04+ models.

Clutch immediately popped up and was responsive after taking off the torsion spring, so that was clearly the issue and not master cylinder or anything.

New spring fits fine, but its a little softer than stock, so I might see what brake return springs an auto parts place has, or go a size down.

No pics because I hated being under the dash lol

Also got the bed and taillights back on today after replacing the fuel pump yesterday. Next project is LCA bushings. Might just buy the MOOG LCAs if the shop quotes me too much to replace the bushings. Labor looks to be a bunch of hours.

 

I did the 70# spring on mine, might have changed since then, but out of curiosity where did you anchor it on the dash support bar? There's a little tab welded in a kind of hard to see spot but it's got a hole in it for the linear return spring that the 4cyl trucks have (they don't use the torsion spring)

 

There was a little tab with a hole that seemed perfectly designed for it up in the dash up at about a 45 degree angle from the clutch assembly.

I did notice that the piece of metal that hooked into the middle of the stock torsion spring touches the linear spring a little when nearing full depression of the clutch. I'll see if theres a spring that has longer U-hooks and a smaller spring body (more compact) to avoid that. But honestly I was surprised that I almost dont need a spring return at all, the clutch would come back all the way even without one.

I think #70 designation might vary from brand to brand, or True Value to Ace etc, because it was over 9" at True Value, and the correct spring is closer to 4-5", so #70 is way too long, it would be completely slack for half of the clutch movement.

 

Finished the spare set of spindles...

Which are now on the truck...

Which means I now get to buy bearings, retaining clips, inner, and outer seals again...

And repeat this process...






Also, finished up with the install on the front diff.

Need to drain and fill rearend tomorrow (break in is done). And wire the front locker.

 

When I was swapping spindles yesterday. I noticed my UBJ boots were beginning to crack. Do I was shopping for replacements this morning. Figured I'd share. They're marked down over 40% here. A set of boots was under 11 bucks, so I ordered to sets.
