I used to dismiss the complaints as nostalgia from the vinyl die-hards.
Even though I had a nagging feeling that my shiny new digital components didn't sound quite the same.
Then I saw recently a few videos by Rick Beato on YouTube.
(Sorry, I didn't bookmark any of them, look him up on YT if interested).

Beato demonstrates the technical skill and deliberate choices involved in creating the "Black Sabbath Sound".
It's at least partly a matter of harmonics and sub-harmonics, and also the effect of specifically tuned pickups and amps.
Plus the sub-harmonics of analog equipment in general.


And he demonstrated why, all in all, it's difficult to capture digitally.
I'm not a sound engineer, so I hope I didn't butcher that summary.

I'm not sure. It could very well be just the sound system itself is lacking. The wife unhooked all my hi-fi shit and put it in a corner of the basement. She feared it wasn't good for the animals or something at the volume I would occasionally listen to it.
The best I have now is in my Tacoma that was upgraded with the OEM Audio super deluxe that I have a unresolved issue, but it still jams pretty good. Loud and clear enough you couldn't have a conversation anyway

They also touched on Geezer's technique playing into the sound. I believe he had a stub finger too, haha, or recall something about that stub also contributed to his sound.
I'm going to try and find another example.

So at a minute 35 into the song, the guitar just doesn't seem as pronounced or dirty. Like I mentioned could just be the lack of sound system I'm using now. May just dig out that older receiver/amp and hook that all back up and try it tomorrow.
