Bilstein 6112

How does it ride in your opinion on those settings? Also, what kind of work did it take to get those -38 offset wheels to fit? I’m about to bump my 6112 settings up a notch, about to put on some new wheels with a -25 offset and run a 285.

 

It rides good...no complaints but I would like some UCA for better steering. You'll need to do a cab mount chop, pitch weld and inner fender chop to clear with those off set...I would suggest doing a fit test first.

No problem. I think the 1/4 inch spacer made a big difference in the front....went from 38.5 inches ground to fender to 39 inches...I know it don't sound like alot but you'll notice it once it's on.

 

I'm looking at getting a 6112 and 5100 lift for my truck. I'm wanting to do just a small lift and would like to keep a rake. So would setting the notch at 4/3 and 1.5 AAL with the overload removed give me too much rake? Or would it be better to set the notch at 5/4? I don't really want to max out the notches and have a stiff ride.

 

3/4 will put you pretty much dead level. May want to go 4/5 with the AAL if your wanting some rake. Here is mine on 3/4:

 

Thanks! That's exactly the stance and height I want. I'm putting on 265/70/17 tires so I don't want the truck sitting too high making the tires look small. How is the ride quality with the 4/3 setting?

 

I really enjoy the ride, much better for me than the stock Off-Road set up. Firmer than stock but really soaks up the larger stuff nicely. No more bouncy feeling and eliminated the nose dive when braking. I would just go with the 3/4 set up and not even worry about the AAL if you like that stance and going to run 265s. I am on 265/70/17s and the stance is very nice IMO. With that being said, I can’t leave well enough alone. I have some new wheels sitting in my garage that have a -25 offset and I plan to put a 285 on them. I will need to bump up the fronts a little and will install the 3 leaf AAL I have had sitting in my garage over a year now. I just hope it doesn’t kill my ride quality, since I really like the ride on 3/4.

 

How many inches did you get on that setting?

The notch you're on won't affect ride stiffness, just reduces the amount of down travel available on the shock.

 

Some comments on a recently installed 6112/5160 set. 6112s are at 4/3, the truck is OR trim with stock tires, and the rear is lightly loaded with stock leaf springs.

The new suspension feels very similar to the OEM OR suspension, but with the addition of significant amounts of slow speed damping. Off road has these improvements; slow speed side-to-side swaying is greatly reduced, big hits no longer require pedestrian speed, and braking control on large obstacles or steep descents is significantly improved. My preliminary opinion is washboard harshness is about the same as OEM, but more time is needed to confirm. The off road comparison is at 20 psi and at slow-moderate speed (no comments on faster stuff or jumps).

On pavement has these improvements; brake dive is significantly slowed, the ability to modulate the brakes smoothly is dramatically improved, and the roll into sharp turns is tamed. Comfort feels about the same. Even with the OR’s weak front and nonexistent rear sway bar, it almost felt sporty. Overall the change was so nice I wondered what was compromised on the off road side.

Seems like a no-brainer for Toyota to include these with the OR trim, and adjust the price say $750.

 

Is anyone running 6112/5160 with medium Dakar leafs? If so, what notches are the 6112 at?

 

I have 885/5100s on my prerunner. It's always been a bit too high for my liking in the front. It's on the first notch. About 60k miles and I've enjoyed them but I've been thinking about 6112s and if I can make them so they're slightly slower... Maybe a 2.5 lift on my prerunner rather than a full 3 that I currently have. No weight up front. Rear I have Dakar medium duty that always seems low since the front is so high. Looks good empty but I add some weight and the truck seems nose high. Not a fan. Other option is to get some airbags for the rear when I'm hauling or towing.

What are your thoughts?

 

You should be able to set those 6112s to the amount you want.
Specs with the 600# spring give you 0", .95", 1.43", 1.94" and 2.5" for the prerunner.

contrary to what is posted above there is no setting for 0" of lift per Bilstein for a 06 prerunner.

In addition, Bilstein does not recommend clip position 5 for the 2006 pre-runner.
