Spent some time this past weekend working on the plastic trim on my 08 Sport 4x4.

I know there are many different products and tricks out there for plastic trim. Solution Finish is what I chose to go with. We'll see how long it lasts.

Here's a few before, during, and after pics. The last two really show the difference it makes.

I've had good luck with this but it definitely does not last forever. Prep with alcohol helps a ton. I feel like my bottle didn't mention to clean with alcohol before applying and the first couple of times I used it I only had decent results. A couple years later I did a cowl and some other trim that was VERY faded. I did a very good prep job using alcohol and then I applied by spraying rather than wiping/brushing. Results were fantastic.

But, almost a year later much of it as faded. No where near as bad as before but definitely fading. I'm hoping that since mine was so badly faded to start that I just need an application every 9-12mon for a couple years and then it'll be sufficiently dyed and won't need attention very often.

Unless the vehicle lives inside reapplying every year is going to be required for black trim. You might could buy more time by applying a trim coating over top of the SF, but the sun and weather are going to win out in the end.

This trend of putting all this plastic trim on cars is bad, it looks alright when new but fading is unavoidable if you don't stay after it.

I had been told about cleaning first, and used alcohol and a microfiber towel for that. I also put it on very heavy and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping off the residue. I put a small amount of Solution Finish in a plastic cup and applied it with a 1" foam paint brush.

I just bought some last week and finally got around to it last night. I like the product worked well. My trim wasn’t so bad. It looks good. After seeing your truck I forgot to do the cowl. Damn

Any particular technique with the alcohol prep, or just general cleaning?

I sprayed the alcohol onto a microfiber towel, then wipoed down the plastic parts. I repeated the process as needed until I was no longer getting dirt and/or black plastic residue. I did not spray directly onto the plastic parts because I was concerned about the overspray affecting/removing the coating on the paint.
