The majority of Americans don't. It's just an extremely vocal portion that do.

I don't think it causes problems - how many stories make the news where someone lawfully carrying a firearm causes trouble?

Uh, ok, well the shooting in Tuscon a couple days ago is an exception to the rule, but in general it's not the ones that can carry that get in trouble.

I can see that...they do run your plates and see automatically that you have a permit.

Was anyone aware that when you get your permit, you were automatically entered into hundreds of goverment databases? look it up...

i'd say try resolve it to the lowest level possible until the police get there.

sometimes the courts will side with an attacker if they feel one way or another, its not worth the gamble.

    personal opinion.

Yeah...and the media and gun activists are in an uproar.

I've been hearing some positive arguements also - which is really good to hear (for a change). I heard one quote this morning on the news (can't remember who said it) "I wish there would've been atleast one more 'responsible' gun carrying citizen in the room"

Definately something to look into for the both of you, cause if it's not comfortable to carry it then you won't do it.
My H&K 40cal is the compact model (9mm is same size), but it's definately not compact in terms of concealment. It was going to be my duty weapon on the PD, but I left due to a medical issue. I bought the Walther P22 (comes in 9mm also) as my 1st gun, so that I could get familiar with guns and get use to having one. It's small, but not small enough for me to carry concealed comfortably, most guys could probably carry it without an issue. I shot a lot of guns of all sizes and caliber before I decided which ones I wanted to own, but at the time I wasn't looking to carry concealed. I love my H&K, it was well worth the cost.

Most people suggest a revolver for a female who is looking for a personal safety gun, unless the female has experience with a semi-auto and is comfortable with it. I personally have never liked revolvers, just my preference. I use to go shooting often and have fired a lot of different guns, it's been awhile, but it's one of those things you don't ever forgot how to do. I was always a fairly decent shot with any gun handed to me, but I prefer to shoot it first before I decide it's the best gun for me. I have small hands, so I stayed away from Glock, I tried and tried to get use to it, but was never comfortable enough with it.

I'm looking to get a KelTec P3-AT .380 for concealed carry, it's the cheapest of the other brands with similar guns such as Ruger LCP and I'm not looking to spend a lot of money. One of the girls I work with carries the KelTec, she's a retired Federal Marshal and a couple of the guys carry them also. There is a laser for it, so if your looking for something to be able to put in your pocket check out that one. It comes in a 9mm also.

Make sure you shoot them first - the trigger pull is very, very long. Seriously long.

Ugly situation and not at all uncommon. Most classes I've taken teach that deadly force can only be used against deadly force (exceptions exist, of course) and displaying your gun in that situation might defuse it, or it may escalate it. Until he threatened deadly force I'd do my best to run away.

I just got rid of one of those. No real reason other than I wasn't carrying it and It's not a good 'fun shooting' gun so I sold it to my brother. I had an issue at first with it jamming, but I chalked it up to being a limp wristed bitch and letting it manhandle me. I loved it, once I got used to shooting it I never had a problem with jamming or anything. I'd recommend it

There are many tools available for your disposal. Don't put a limit on the size of your toolbox.

I would spray and reasess the situation. Just like if I shot someone, mozambeque drill and reasess. Not every situation has a nice pat answer. Have a good flexible plan and always be looking for an exit.

Thanks, I planned on it. There is an indoor gun range near my house that has a nice selection of rentals, but if they don't have a KelTec available the girl I work with would probably let me borrow hers for the weekend.

Thanks, I'm not looking for a fun shooting gun, I have 2 of those already. I'm looking strictly for something I can put in my pocket or in my purse when I'm out and about.
I had the same limp wrist jamming problem with my Walther P22 after I'd been shooting my H&K pretty often. One of the guys at the range told me that I'd become more comfortable with the gun and had lightened up my grip, he said hold it tighter and it worked.
I read about it in the gun section on here, I see a few people recommend it, thanks for the input.

I definately have smaller hands (compared to the husband anyway) :D
I have a S&W M&P9C which fits me perfectly for general shooting. I love that gun!! But like you said...it's too big to carry. I thought my husband would use that as a carry gun, but even he's looking for something smaller in size.

With my lifestyle - I'll probably 'purse' carry simply because ....I'll never be able to strap a gun on/off as many times as I'd have to - I just won't do it. I'll have to ball/chain the purse to my hip or something ;)

But we'll see.... we're not in a hurry and most definately want training. The husbands been looking at the Keltecs. He's waiting for another gun, one that isn't out yet...(Sig Sauer I think?) and he also likes the Bodyguard but we've read a couple places online people having trigger failures (not sure if they remedied that or not).

Personally, I might just stick with something .380 variety. Maybe by the end of the year I'll get something.
