How long did you have to wait for your 2021 factory order?

Army Green TRD Pro was the 2020 Color. I don’t think you will get a AG Pro anytime soon unless it’s Pre Owned. Unless that is a new option for the 22 model but the only new color they have is the Electric Lime Metallic. So White, Black, MGM will be the other Pro Colors that have been going on for the last few years. You can get it in a Sport or Off-Road.

 

Your not ordering anything from the factory. What I have learned by researching and reading the threads is that Toyota releases a list of vehicles for each region. Depending on sales volume in those regions will somewhat determine the vehicles each dealer will get. Those dealers then try to allocate a vehicle from that list. There’s really no guarantee unless they show they have a deposit for one and can submit that to try and snag it. The build that you choose isn’t really a custom build, it’s a request for that package and if it is in the pipeline already than they can try and get it allocated. They don’t do custom orders because that’s not how a production line works. It would cause a lot of work stoppages and slow volume to specify each custom build. You can request certain accessories that they install at the port after production but not anything Toyota does while it’s being built.

Each month they usually have dates that the list will drop and I believe it’s twice a month. So if your preference of model and package are on there they will try and snag it but depending on how many dealers are wanting that exact same set up, it can take some time.

 

No markup on mine, it was an allocated truck in a dealer swap so, not a direct order, but no mark up either.

 

Ordered a silver O/R with premium tech package and that’s it. Took almost 9 weeks really wanted to go lunar rock or cement but none of the dealerships near me had any coming in within like 4-5 months that weren’t over the top optioned out with stuff I didn’t want.

 

It's been exactly a month since I put down my deposit.

Build date was a week ago.

Now the wait feels the longest.

I want to call the dealer, but I'm going to try and wait until next week -- spoke to them ~2 weeks ago and they said everything was on track.

 

Hey all - new to the forum, thought I'd add my dates here:

'Ordered' w/deposit from dealership June 24th
Got the permanent VIN on July 12th
Arrived at dealer July 23rd

Was pretty flexible on options, basically selected one that was already in the pipe...paid a couple under MSRP but went in with a really nice trade that they'll probably make a killing on.

From my personal experience this is not entirely true. My dealer had a TRDOR DCSB 6MT in the pipeline with the premium, advanced tech packages and LED lights — but it was in Silver and I wanted Barcelona red metallic. He was able to put in a color change as well as add the OEM tonneau which had to be done on the assembly line, so some tweaks can be made if your dealer has the will to do it.

 

I finally got to drive my truck home today, will post more pics next week after a couple goodies get installed

Picked up truck from dealer 07/26

FantasyFreak's explanation of the allocation system is spot on. It is how Toyota controls their JIT part deliveries and controls inventory. Notice how Toyota never has a large surplus of vehicles at the end if a model year that they are putting huge incentives on to move. The build schedule is firmed 30 days out and what is built is what dealers can choose from. Modifying anything on a truck within that window is impossible. I worked in Engineering Management at the San Antonio plant from the time it was under construction until my retirement so I have a pretty good understanding of how this works.
