I'm sure the guy is stoked a few Padres fans live here and didn't get stuck with some dodger fans. Must be keeping everything on an even keel. :D

Cats and dogs both seem to be drawn to it lol.

I picked wrong time to stop in and read last few pages to get caught up. Reminds me of the house my dad bought on the island in NY back the 70’s where someone had been murdered. So glad when we moved out of that house.

Hey guys, I haven't posted Kink or Jet in here in a while, but I've got a bit of a dilemma I'm sure some of you guys may have experience with.

Kink has been getting reoccurring UTIs.
She's showing symptoms of her 3rd one now. We've done an antibiotic shot treatment, then moved on to a 2 week course of Clavamox. 2 weeks out from the 2 week course, we're showing symptoms again. We've tried adding an extra litter box, getting a filtered water fountain and giving supplements. The vet thinks it's because she's a worry wart, and said it'll likely flare up on and off forever, which is heartbreaking.

I found out she first had a UTI when I saw her squatting in the sink before work one day which was really odd behavior for her. She's very well behaved and doesn't get into much, but she was just sitting in there staring at me. I found some bloody urine and took her to the vet immediately. That's where she got her first round. she was good for about a week and a half. The second time we did the 2 weeks of Clavamox.

The worst part is she's so great about it. If she's in so much pain she wont go into the litter box, she either does it in a sink, tub or on the bathroom rug, and that's only when things get really bad. She knows it sucks.

I'm sure I'll probably have to change her diet, which is going to be a giant pain in the ass with 2 cats that are used to being free-fed in the house, but I'd do anything at this point.

Anyone else have an anxious cat with similar issues?

Sorry to hear, that's a sucky situation to have. How many litter boxes between the two? Thinking maybe she's not going when she needs to if the litterbox is already occupied :notsure:

There's 2 of them; he's in and out really quick, and he doesn't ambush her when she goes. Fortunately/unfortunately, their box is in the master bathroom, so I have a pretty good idea of their habits, haha. At the moment, she's spending 30 minutes or so in there trying to void all she can. I'm scheduling her an x-ray to make sure it's not a bladder crystal she's dealing with, but the vet doesn't think that's the case, and neither do I. Her bladder isn't full to capacity, she's just experiencing urgency.

That's a horrible idea. What time?
If the vet and you both think it might be nerves or.being anxious, the is a pheromone product sold at Walmart and pet stores that releases a pheromone momma cats release to kittens to calm them. They work like the plug in air fresheners. Down fall is the square footage they cover, so most places need more.than one. We used them we did a regional move with three cats. Helped a bit, but we also made sure we were around.

Good deal, thank you! Glad to hear it works. I just ordered one today after asking if she would recommend it. I'm going to try it out in the bedroom since that's where she spends most of the day and I'll probably add more from there if I see a bit of a difference.

I guess my question would be whats causing her anxiety? Maybe needs more exercise time? Is she drinking plenty of water?

When we adopted her from a rescue, everything made/makes her anxious. She jumps very easy, doesn't like anyone but us unless they're over for a few days to warm up(good thing we never have guests), just a nervous nelly. She will shake under the covers between my feet in bed for 2 hours after our doorbell rings. When I picked her out of the group to take home, I just had a feeling about her. She wasn't lovey dovey or anything. Just emaciated and shaking in the corner of a cage. She's extremely sweet, and is very open, energetic and talks real loud when we are home, and she gets along with Jet just fine. Crinkle a bag too loud in the kitchen she will bolt for a second and come back. She's just always on edge.

What triggered this I believe is moving the litterbox. The area of the house it was in is not accessible to them anymore. If there were an easy way to do so, I'd rebuild that part of the basement, but that's not really in the cards. I had moved the box about a week before we took that area of the basement down to make sure they would acclimate, and they seemed to be doing fine. It took her a about 3-4 weeks after to develop an infection.

So sorry to hear about your girl not feeling well. I wish I had some advise for you but other than uti I wonder if cats can get kidney stones. I know from personal experience that they cause the urgency feeling with little production. Has the vet recommended additional fluids (subcutaneous) for her? These can be administered at home. Maybe this will cause more harm than good but might be worth asking. I have heard that pure bread cats like Siamese are susceptible to having kidney issues. Another thought is maybe the vet can put in some kind of catheter? I’m just spit ballin at this point. Really just have to follow your vets recommendation or ask you vet if he/ she knows of a vet that specializes in this area. I pray she gets to feeling better soon.

Anything is welcome, I'll likely be meeting up with my vet soon to talk about it, so any points that I can go over would be great. I had no idea kidney issues were common in Siamese cats, so that's good to know. I've been adding more fluids to her UTI wet food to make sure she's getting enough, but she's been drinking an appropriate amount of water outside of that. I'm at a loss at the moment. I'm really hoping that an xray can reveal something for her.

You could also try playing soothing music and see if that'll calm her down. New Age or symphonic stuff might work. Good luck.

I hope the vet has the answer your looking for. I don’t know if X-ray will show anything like kidney stones but I know (the hard way) that they will show up in a CT scan. Kidney stones aren’t necessarily related to the kidneys themselves as it’s more of a genetic disposition or dietary. Like I said I don’t even know if cats actually get them. Either way I’d think that additional fluids wouldn’t hurt. I can only imagine how uncomfortable she must be. I hope it gets cleared up and you find the root cause for the reoccurrence. Keep us posted.
