Toyota installed an aftermarket lift kit from amazon instead of TRD on ordered truck.

Before signing a multi year multi thousand dollar contract it would be wise to read it in detail.

Who determines what one needs? How many Jeep owners (my wife included) have no idea how to put their Jeep in 4WD? The OP probably bought the lift because it looks better, and if he has any off-roading aspirations, will probably handle most of what he wants to do.

That being said, his complaint should be solved quite simply by the dealer.

OP: You sold me this $1200 lift kit of spacers. I wanted the TRD lift kit
Dealer: I'm sorry about that. I misunderstood, but I'd be happy to upgrade you. Keep in mind, there is a cost delta and that the labor is much more intensive for the TRD Kit than your current lift, I'll need you to cover that cost as it was not covered in the original agreement. I will however credit you for the labor we've already done, as a sign of good will. Your new total will be $xxxx
OP: Well, I don't want to spend that much.
Dealer: Let me know if you change your mind. Have a good day.
OP: I have a decision to make.

    That's pretty much it. :notsure:

It's important to understand what you're getting, it's also important for the consumer to be reasonable when a mistake has been made. Humans are involved. It happens. The dealer did a small amount of work to perform the current lift and more work and more money is needed to perform the TRD lift. They may have misunderstood what you were after, but it sounds just as likely to me that you didn't fully understand what you were after, which is why we're here today.

I’ve witnessed my sisters boyfriend get hosed on a truck deal and didn’t know it until after the paperwork was signed. After the dealer said there was nothing they could do, he proceeded to write “do not do business with this so and so dealership” and “so and so dealership is a ripoff” in white removable paint all over the truck so wherever he drove people would see it. Pics were then posted to Yelp and Facebook and miraculously the dealership called him and was nice as pie and got it all sorted out. Not saying this is the right thing to do just what I’ve seen firsthand. Sometimes dealerships need a little dose of reality and they need some “encouragement” in order to make it right.

    A few.
That extra $1200 that the dealer wants to charge u to install the actual trd lift kit package in addition to the $1200 u already paid, is about the amount u would had paid to have that trd kit installed from the beginning. That may be ur best bet at this point but I would get that put in writing before agreeing to it.

I believe most people pay well over $2k for their TRD lifts including labor.

To be perfectly honest, you probably got $1200 worth of parts and labor. They probably paid $200-300 for the spacer kit, marked it up 25% and then billed for 6 hours if labor at ×150/HR.

    $300 in parts
    6 hrs × $150/hr = $900
    Total = $1200

Is that worth $1200? Imo not at all, but plenty of people pay that in that ballpark for installed spacer lifts.

Honestly, the TSS may just be the saving grace in this sh*tshow.

Not yet. From what the OP has said I don’t think it’s there, or else he’d have a smoking gun.

Maybe the TSS not working will be your saving grace. Ask them to get it working. When they can't, up the TSS not working to corporate. You were sold a NEW vehicle that they knowingly put on a lift that messed with the TSS. Hint to them and corporate about possible accidents in this unsafe vehicle. Maybe then they can read the writing on the wall and help you out.

If it was raining when you went to pick the truck up, insist that they bring it inside the garage so you can inspect it. Do you think they left it outside by happenstance?

I think the OP was in a situation where his budget for the truck was maxed out. He leased to get the price down, asked for the TRD lift and when he saw the price of $1200 installed, signed right at that dotted line. There is so much missing info here, it is hard to determine if the dealer even did anything shady. I agree the dealer would be reasonable to make it right by crediting the $1200 in labor toward the install of the lift that he wanted, but the TRD lift is $1200 in parts alone.

if OP would post his invoice then we could determine if they charged for a TRD lift kit or not.

OP is also under the impression that adding non Toyota parts will void his warranty.

The more I re-read his first post the more I believe they were fired up to get a new ride and glanced at the final documentation.

Understood and I agree. The OP didn't get what he thought he was getting, but neither did he pay for what he thought he was getting. So either pony up to cover the delta and get what you really wanted, or be happy with the lift you have at a cheaper rate. Simple really.

I've spent a few years in the automotive salesman/technician world. These issues come up from time to time, I can assure you the dealership will work with him. But if he can't afford the lift he wanted, then there's nothing left to discuss. Repair the TSS and move on.

years ago there was a guy that did the same thing in the town I was living at.

dealership warranty fixed parts on his Cherokee. Dealership installed used oem parts to fix.

guy was on a crusade against that dealership, told every single person who would listen everywhere he went.

is that amount of stress and aggravation even remotely worth $1200?

    no. It is not.
