So far this IAC is an improvement. In the conditions I've encountered so far with it, the idle is no longer staying high. Comes down to where is should be sooner.

The one I removed seemed slow to respond to changing conditions. I would describe it as lazy behavior. Sometimes it would be fine, at other times not so much. They get gummed up and cleaning out the gunk usually fucks them up thoroughly. Fortunately Zane had a couple of spare TBs so I stole one from him and used it's IAC. This one is not as 'lazy', and is able to control the idle better.

Timmy has a video on all this, but I think even he fucked his when he cleaned it.

I'm thinking they left em long to make install easier. There's plenty of room there for long bolts.

Ok so from what I’ve heard, a new pack of leaf springs should get rid of axle wrap.. am I wrong? I installed the full OME kit last September with the Dakar’s without AAL and I feel like the axle wrap hasn’t changed much.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Are you sure it's actually axle wrap that you're trying to fix?

Pretty sure if swapping to Dakars didn't fix axle wrap, it wasn't axle wrap to begin with. Have you checked the U-joints, Carrier bearing, etc?

I am actually getting some noise from what I believe is the carrier bearing. It’s also never been replaced since I’ve had it for the past 80k currently at 280k. I have done one or two of the u-joints. Can a bad carrier bearing have similar symptoms like axle wrap?

If it's really bad, it can have a clunk when you apply force. Same with the u-joints. Carrier bearing can also have a vibration if it's bad.

What symptom are you experiencing, that causes you to think axle wrap?

If you've replaced the leafs with Dakars and you're still experiencing the symptom, I could almost definitely rule out axle wrap. Year old Dakars aren't going to have any wrap. To rule out any other issues with leafs, I personally, would just re-check torque on all the U-bolts, shackle bolts and leaf eye bolts... those are all items that are good to double check periodically anyway.

You can usually just look at the carrier bearing and tell if it's bad. The rubber bushing around the bearing deteriorates and starts to rip/tear over time. Push up/down on it, should be some play but not a lot. When mine had a torn bushing I was getting bad driveline vibes esp at certain speeds. Definitely wasn't axle wrap though.

I had axle wrap on my old Prerunner, any time I'd come to a stop - 1 or 2 seconds later it would feel like someone hit me from behind. Springs releasing tension and causing a feeling like someone hit your bumper.

I've never experienced it with my 04, then again I didn't have the stock leafs on for long like I did with my 99.

Interesting but I will put my $.02 in:
I had clapped out and negatively arched Dakars that were installed from the prior owner.
I ran them until late 2019 and swapped out for a new set of Dakars with AAL (I couldn't make up my mind on Alcans/Deavers).
    Axle wrap was gone.

Fast Forward to post Moab April 2021, axle wrap is partially back because I have two blown 5125 Billies.

Mine could be a combo of issues, but with a new Dakar pack and functional shocks and the poly center bearing and lubed up slip yoke, I had no axle wrap.

Good point! I was assuming the Dakars are new.

Let me rephrase @Logans2001 … NEW Dakars aren't going to have any axle wrap. Not sure if the ones you installed were new, or new to you. But I highly doubt you'd have as bad of luck as I do, replacing stock leafs that wrapped with Dakars that wrapped too. lol

You can tell if the carrier bearing is not so good:
Crawl under there, push up on it - it should move a bit but if its easy and takes little force, start there.

@Logans2001... @Yetimetchkangmi is right. Blown shocks could also contribute, as well as badly worn shock bushings.

It’s whenever I come to a stop and then release off the brake I get that thud. Even the gear shift handle pops forward a little bit I think. I did get the Dakar’s brand new. I do have minor highway shakes but I wouldn’t say it’s bad. I have also crawled under there before and tried to inspect it myself but didn’t seem like the bushing was deteriorated and not an excessive amount of play either.
I have made a few long trips from San Diego to Sacramento a couple times within the past year and I noticed some squeaks after my last trip. I also just got back from a camping trip in big bear which also involved about a 20 mile off-road trail that we did. Noticed it squeaks considerably now but only in reverse.

I inspected the carrier bearing some time ago so I should probably check again for any difference.

Axle wrap normally presents it's self more on acceleration. Not saying it's impossible for it to be what you're experiencing, but I'd be looking elsewhere at this point. Especially if the Dakars are new.
