Hmmm.. what was under the timing cover on a GM 350 CI engine?

No. They stretch, jump gears, the cam gears can break, etc.

Belts are actually more 'accurate' in retaining timing. Until they break.

Many street rods replace the chains with a gear drive kit for the same reason. Some even install a belt kit.

And chains were not v8 exclusive. They were on most all engines. I have replaced worn ones on both straight and v6s

Breakage only hurts (other than having a non running vehicle) on an interfearence fit engine.

Oh brother! A timing chain/belt operates engines ONLY with overhead cams which opens and closes the valves(OHC engine). Old V8s or none that I ever heard of did NOT have over head cams but most had overhead valves(OHV) which had the cam lower in the engine which is a gear driven from the crank shaft. The cam lobes would "push" a push rod up through the engine to operate the overhead valves(therefore NO chain or belt required). A Harley engine is a good example. A Harley has push rods that are clearly visible and does NOT us a timing chain/belt. Thats the best I can do.

The point is, replace your timing gears on the 2gr-fks every 10k miles. Same interval for plugs.

You are making fruit salad trying to mix Harley and automotive engines

Gear driven cams in an automotive application is the exception, not the rule.

Come back and play again after you open up a few of those old pushrod motors. Which, FWIW, I first did in about '69.

I think the keywords here are "that I know of". How many engines have you looked inside of or built? Honda RC51 (motorcycle\motoGP) has an overhead cam system with gear driven cams (no chain)

Google is your friend man. No one is hiding info, but you make yourself look stupid when you could easily search...

Book says 60k. I did mine at 60k and felt like they were good to go for another 40k as well though.

To be done at 80k to 120k it’s a chain .it’s recommended being that you have 100k miles don’t be that guy engine failure at 160k miles .things need to be measured and inspected . U might not need but if you want to prolong the engine . Why not replace it or at least have it checked. Who knows what the other owner drove it like .

off topic but when I had to replace my engine on a 2009 forester, I guess my mechanic didn't pull the spark plugs or notice one was higher then the rest. some 70k km later when I did do the sparks etc turned out the higher sitting one had a socket? still attached to it. ffs imagine driving 70k km on only 3 plugs firing. That one was toast, surprised it took that long for misfire before I brought it in to see wtf was going on.

some of us are just clue less
