My tie rod is rubbing my rim!!

I just installed a 6" pro comp suspension lift and when i drive down the road anywhere from 40 on up and i get about a 1/8 into the throtle it starts to rub anyone have any ideas as to why its doing this and a way to fix it??

 

are they stock wheels? if so that is the problem. The new spindles with the Procomp lift require after market wheels due to the larger size.

No real need to match front width with rear. Many long-travel setups end up with wider track in the front.

 

The Pro-Comp kit says it requires 18" rims to 20" rims or the tie rod will rub.

Says that in the instructions. When I called ProComp, they said it's an absolute must.

i even called pro comp myself cause i had a couple questions they said do you have 17's or bigger

 

You may have a different kit. But the 2007-2009 with VSC kit, states this in the instructions I am reading this as I type:

IMPORTANT!: 18” OR LARGER WHEELS WITH 4 3/4”
MAXIMUM BACKSPACING MUST BE USED IN CONJUNCTION
WITH THIS LIFT KIT!

What year/model all that stuff is your ride? Also, what is the Kit number?

OK, then they are right, that kit states (online):

BACKSPACING MUST BE USED IN CONJUNCTION
WITH THIS LIFT KIT!

But i know in the VSC kit, it does also state that in SOME cases, you still have to trim up to 1/4" off the tie rod thread and "shorten" the throw.

Didn't read your instructions, but dollars to donuts says you are in the same boat.

How much is it not clearing by? if its anywhere up to 1/2" you may just need to trim some of the threading off by that amount. If it's more than that, something is wrong.

Either way, great choice on the kit, i want(ed) to do the same kit (hence I have the instructions memorized) but with gas prices, I've pretty much given up on that route.
