The daytime running lights turn off with the truck but not the headlights. I’ve come out to the truck multiple times with the headlights on after like 20 minutes.

Wow so can you leave the headlights switched on all the time if you want then?

Yup. I could but don't. It may be a setting in the headunit but I don't remember for sure.

I would prefer mine work that way or at least have a buzzer (it buzzes if the key is left in the ignition).

Anybody else have the same truck as me to confirm that mine is supposed to not turn off automatically?

2020 Tacoma SR5 V6 access cab (came optioned with bed light if that should matter).

Edit: just went and looked after seeing your mention of the head unit. Mine has an option for “headlights auto-off timer” that was set to 30 seconds. They totally don’t shut off though. I’ll try changing the settings, maybe that will reset it.

Changing the settings appears to have fixed it. Thanks @RX1cobra

My 2021 Sport does NOT have premium package but has both auto headlights and auto High Beams.

I’ve got auto on/off. The high beams are also auto on/dim. I’ve got all the bells and whistles so maybe if you want the niceties you have to pay for them.

Now there’s an idea. Pay for what you get. But I suppose the participation trophy generation really does want everything just handed to them.

Ill add mine to the mix. 2020 TRDOR non premium, but has tech and LED. Has auto headlights and bright. I just leave the headlight switch turned to auto and have never had to touch it.

I believe we have the key so it can work in conjunction with the Clutch Start Cancel Switch allowing you to ride the starter out in gear.

The automatic headlights / high beams are among the many features (the other biggie being the cruise control) that I simply don't use on my truck. At least you can turn these annoyances off.

Since we’re off track a little, my wife refuses to use the auto climate control in her cars. That shit is the bees knees. Love it.

I had this exact convo with my boss today. He has a Tundra, we were talking about the 2022 and what it needs vs. last gen. I mentioned how Toyota is weird and used the same example. Touchscreen nav, pushbutton start, inductive charging, but no auto headlights…

I've never heard of this. Not a thing in Canada but looks like 18 states require it.
