I agree, cleaning the radiator is a good start. I dropped engine temps like 10 whole degrees and trans temp probably similar after cleaning mine. Mine was pretty caked. I removed the shroud and flushed from the backside, so it would come out the way it came in.

Do 3rd gens have a transmission cooler? I think I read somewhere that that some do and some don't. After I installed mine, its definitely overcooled now but stays around 165 once warmed up and I can ride with converter unlocked up huge hills without even seeing 10* temp increase. I'm looking at plumping in cooler bypass with thermostat now, so it seems to be neverending haha.

A smaller one would probably work well in addition to the one built into the radiator to bring temps down without overcooling

Yeah my OR 4x4 has the towing package and trans cooler, it had a few decent sized bugs in it and a few in the main radiator fins, but not like it was caked up.

Didn't break down the trim or front grill to spray behind, but got my littler hose nossle in and sprayed it down, figured I'd see how this does.

Once my scangauge goes over 200, I keep a close eye on things/slow down. 220 is when i would pull over but not turn off engine. If its getting up there, usually in the mountains of WV, I would switch to 4 or 3 to keep the torque converter open to keep more fluid cooling.

Ive had my A/T Oil light come on before, and scangauge said 320. Ive changed the fluid after that trip, and a few times since then, and havent seen any ill effects.

I haven't seen temps quite that high, but I was over 200 every time I drove the truck for a while there and this was my same approach. Usually once it got over 200 I'd crank the heat, even in the summer.

Trans or coolant? If trans, the heat won't really help.

Under daily driving, my coolant wont go over 195. I know my radiator is clean though.

Ultragauge engine temp, which if I understand correctly is usually the torque converter temp. I'm not 100% on that though.

Cranking the heat would drop the temp 5-10 degrees though. Temps returned to normal when I spent an hour hosing down my radiator haha

    Stupid notifications.

    Congrats to Adam and Kristen!

Learn from my experience: Paint the sliders in something that's easily touched-up. And Tim are you using the Raptor Liner 2K in the cans or just the regular stuff? If you're using 2K I'd hate to see that cost. Anyway, I'll probably get my sliders blasted somewhere down the road and just paint them in something out of the cans. I've been using some paint over rust deal lately. I can only remember it's called Rust Barrier and it's made by one of the big names in rattle cans. So far, it's been the best stuff I've used of that product type. And it's a little more durable then your run of the mill spray paint.

Isnt the torque converter in your transmission? I think your getting 2 different temps confused
