So it seems like there's a lot of us out there that have this problem...:goingcrazy:

Yeah I read there was a TSB for this, but like you said earlier model 3rd gens; 2021's have this fixed from the factory.

This was not fixed from the factory. The same holes are still in the control arms. It is not really a problem, just an annoying noise.

Just checked, looks like 2 of the 3 areas on the TSB are plugged from the factory. TSB: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10134062-9999.pdf

I do have a 2020 but mine are wide open and I hear the noise everyday. I do a lot of driving between 30-45 mph. I have never been concerned about it because I know what it is. I did have a 2016 before with the same noise and had the TSB performed back than to get rid of noise. I guess back than I just did not believe the dealer (and TSB) was correct about the problem so I had them do it and the whistle/howl went away.

i believe the problem exists on the A320 series with Fuel Overflow Protection Ports which are perfectly shaped to allow for a loud howl which can be heard all over cities near airports that they land at. it became so much of a problem that people who lived near or under flight paths campaigned to have them modified as to reduce or minimize the noise

I live right near a flight path, i believe i know the howl you are talking about.
I was only asking because your original post was A230, i figured it might be a type-0

I had that recall on my '93 as well, only it ended up taking three weeks, and yes, Marina Del Rey Toyota gave me a free loaner, but the bottom line was that they couldn't resurface the heads so they ordered new ones and ended up basically rebuilding the entire engine down to the rings and crank bearing and offered to replace the current clutch with whatever I wanted if I just brought it to them and never charged me for the labor for the original issue which was bringing it in for a new starter. Oh, wait, I'm describing not just a good dealer experience but a truly phenomenal one, and all at bringing the truck in long after the warranty was up at 140,000 miles. It's all about how you relate to the dealer. Drove that one for 25 years and it still have half the original rear brake shoes left.

    Update:

Bought the required items, and added about 100ml of WS ATF. (Didn't want to overfill)

Driving it around for about 30mins after seemed to be a noticeable improvement. Still heard the whine/grinding but it seemed to be less loud, and not happen for as long.

Shifting seemed to have the biggest improvement. Downshifts did not lurch the truck forward anymore, and engagements on the gas were about 50% smoother.

I'll be doing a full drain and fill within the next few weeks since this seemed to have some impact. Wanted to add this update in case anyone runs into this issue.

Sweet. Annoying that you're doing this on a new truck but good to get it resolved.

You think 3 fl oz will do a difference if you even were low on the fluid?

I had some 90k miles on my 93 v6 3.0 with it being out of warranty to. The head gaskets were replaced no charge for anything. As far as rear shoes...never ever replaced them on any toyota pickup owned...even when my tundra had 290k miles. Front brakes and rotors, thats another story.

By doing this you now have mental satisfaction that you've made things better ...comes down to whatever works for you.
