What’s up with the SR5 tire size?

New member. Just got my 21’ SR5 Taco a couple months back and love the truck, did a lot of research knowing what specs and features I’d be getting but was surprised to find 245/75/16 tires
On the vehicle. Nowhere in my research had anyone noted the stock tires being physically smaller on the SR5 than the TRD trims. Can I replace them with 265/75/16 or something around the other models stock sizes without any issues? I wonder why Toyota dropped the size down. probably just a $$ savings I’d imagine. I knew I wouldn’t be getting off road type tires on the SR5 but I’m just surprised their such a smaller size.

 

I went to265/70r16 toyo at3 after 20k miles and haven’t looked back.

 

You can run 265/70R16 (stock diameter for tires) or 265/75R16 (slightly larger) no issue.

Its for fuel economy, cost, and honestly its an oooooold size from yesteryears.

 

Awesome. I’ll likely be doing that soon. Any drop in mpgs? Any internal sensors or speedometer adjustments need to be made or since it’s a pretty small size increase not needed?

 

It's just slightly more narrow I believe. You should be able to fit 265/75r16 no problem.

This is 265/75r16 with Bilstein 5100 2 inch lift in the front. But they didn't rub at all before the lift.

 

Here’s my ‘19 SR5 with 265/75r16’s. It’s the perfect size in my opinion for these trucks. No rub and it’s a straight swap with the stock tires. I love these Toyo’s.

 

I installed a set of 265/70 16 AT tires that i had for my gen1 tundra on my 2020 sr5. They fit perfect, just a tiny bit wider, and taller, but being all terrain tires they gave me better traction on the roads here in winter, and spring.

 

Throw on some 265 75 16s and remove that chin strap and you will be good to go.

 

265/75 r16. No lift, no rub. Sort of like my dates. No clue what that meant....

 

SR5 always came the 245/75/16. It's just as tall as 265/70/16 that comes on the off road.

 

Toyota.com gives all specs, including tire size. Any stock tire from any trim will fit.

 

Cheaper trim model, often gets the cheaper parts. It's about the same diameter, just 20mm skinnier.

Yes, you can go bigger to the TRD size or even a little bigger.

 

I got this size using General Grabber X3s. I get a little rub at full lock.

 

What’s wrong with the 245/75r16 all-seasons that came on the sr5? The 265/70r16’s that come on the OR are only 20mm wider. The more important difference between the tires on the SR5 and on the OR is that the OR has all-terrain tires. In any case, all the tire sizes can be found online and if you are set on going larger there are a zillion tire threads on this forum. Google search is your friend.

 

I put 265/75R16 Cooper Discoverer AT on my 2020 SR5. Kept the stock dark charcoal wheels too because they look good with the Cement paint color. 3,000 miles and no issue. maybe lost 1 mpg

 

I just bought the AT3 Cooper but havent mounted them up yet. Would you mind posting a pic so I can see how they look.

 

Probably nothing wrong with the original all season tires that came on the sr5. Only issue i had was when putting my boat in with them...i have a grassy bank to the water where i put my boat in and take it out. It slid a bit in 2wd with the original tires while putting the boat in. I had to use 4wd to get back up the bank. With the goodyear adventure AT tires 2wd is no problem in or out. Noticeable difference for biting in the ground.
