I was 18 in 1983. So I was a young adult right in the middle of the GN era 84-85. I will admit for a V6 they sounded "ok". But I'll stick to my guns. No V6 or 4 banger period, will ever sound like an old American V8.

I got a rust hole above the exit pipe of the muffler. Actually sounds pretty good.

IMO the VQ family of engines with the aftermarket exhaust, sound amazing on Infinitis.

    Sounds great!

The sound reminds of the 1988 2.8L camaro I had. It had no cats and a lot of people thought it was a v8, haha! I was like 17, so it was good high school fun. Believe it or not that thing went pretty good, considering embarrassing hp and tq numbers. MT definitely helped.

I can't argue because I have no knowledge of how they sound. But the knowledge I do have says a V8 will always sound better given the same circumstances than a V6 or 4 cyl.

Installed the MBRP turndown on my Taco Friday. After having it for two days I can now say this. As with all exhaust modifications on a V6, it sounds great at idle, and then gets progressively less great sounding the more you wind out the engine. However, I knew this going into it, and for the price, and for the engine type I do think it sounds good.

The “drone” is almost non existent. It is loud, but that in my mind isn’t drone. However, I could see it being an issue in an otherwise stock truck as around 1,800-2,000 RPM the tone is very deep and is near the verge of becoming resonant drone.

I however do have 34” tires so when on the highway my truck almost never leaves fourth gear (3k RPM). Due to that, the ride is much louder than it was prior to the muffler swap. Keep this in mind if you have larger tires as well. I enjoy the sound, but I’m pretty certain after riding in it once my wife will always demand we take her car everywhere.

I can agree with anyone who says V8’s sound the best (was the ONLY reason I owned a 540i M BMW in highschool). But all engines have their place and you cannot expect them to all sound identical. To my ears exotic sports cars (V10’s, V12’s, ETC…) sound horrible, but there are people who find them to be the holy grail of exhaust tone. Don’t hate on others for what they enjoy, so long as they aren’t rattling your neighborhood with noise pollution at 3 A.M. then who cares?

For $400., not much. A CAT back will give no performance gain. If you want a nice throaty sound, a Flowmaster will do it, and Flowmaster never burn out or change their
    sonic signature.

I got the TRD Cat back for $400 on sale from a dealer. Pretty happy with it.

    I did.

They have cat-back systems too, but I wanted an axle dump for mine so it just made sense to swap the muffler

Even though I had a built normally aspirated 4 cylinder Honda engine that would scream to 9500 rpm , I agree with you. The sound of a big cam American V8 is intimidating and sounds amazing. To me all V6’s sound terrible. Now an Inline 6 that screams to 8500 rpms with individual throttle bodies……smooth and intoxicating sound. But american V8 iron sounds is still best.

As you've heard, for NA, exhaust is not a performance gain you will notice. If you still want sound, most cost effective is to just drop in a new muffler of your choice, as sound quality is very much subjective and is tough to capture in a sound clip. I will say I do like my Borla drop-in.
