You should look up Boris Vallejo art
Well, you just gotta get rid of the fence :p

Kidding... It amazes me how far shit blows around here. It's actually been nice to not leave ANYTHING that can be blown away outside because if it can, it will

I have walked out in our yard and field numerous times to pick up random trash that somehow makes it's way here from lord knows where. I'm just thankful to not to live anywhere near our dump.

:rofl:yes, but it wasn't an emergency, all hands on deck, type of meeting. And it actually wasn't as bad that I thought because just maintenance all hands. Sometimes there are site wide all hands with all the high rollers doing the smoke blowing.

Is it profitable there to double crop?
Is the growing season even long enough?
If that's a dumb question... hey... I don't know. :notsure:

Farming in the Cumberland Valley...with Gritto...who isn't a farmer

...though I grew up on a farm

From what I've seen around here, double cropping with small grains (wheat, rye, barley) followed by soybeans or corn is very common.
It might go barley/soybeans one year, wheat/corn the next, or other combinations.
There's quite a lot of rye grown here.
A good deal of the corn grown here is for silage to feed dairy herds.
(You might be interested to know that barley straw is in high demand for algae control on ponds and lakes).

Most of the farms around here are owned by Mennonites.
They have large families and whenever farmland comes up for sale, they buy it.
They'll pool their resources to do it.

I'm glad to see the farmland preserved and worked.
And all the Mennonites I know I like very much.
They're tight knit without being in the least stand-offish.
They have electricity, tractors, minivans (always black) and order their lives as they see fit.

I might go shoot some groundhogs this afternoon.
If I get the opportunity, I may ask Mister Farmer about what he plants, chemicals used, fertilizers...

I always see lots of butterflies and honeybees on Mennonite farms, so I'm fairly sure they use little or no pesticides.
Fields of small grains always have some weeds, so I think they're probably not big on herbicides either.
It seems they only plow often enough to keep the soil from getting compacted.
OTOH, they must use a healthy amount of nitrate fertilizers, from the looks of their corn fields.

Or follow a armored car and the back door swing open and a big sack or two of 100's fall out...

I'm not a farmer so wouldn't know the answer. The only time I've seen anything other than beans or corn grown was one year when IIRC, beans were hit with a very late freeze so they planted wheat.
