2wd, in all conditions. Skills (and, lack of 4wd ) + rear diff lock = success. 1st Gen Pre ftw!

I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
I would stay in 2wd in all those pics.I don't put it in 4hi until I start sliding around but that's just me.

2wd for all. For pictures 1 and 5 I'd have my foot on the gas very light, if a few slips happened then 4hi and slow her down to be easier on my drivetrain.

As Garth223 mentioned, I try to keep momentum in my favor.

Don't see anything there that would warrant being in 4wd even with the crappy tires that were on mine when I bought it.

I'd stay in 2wd until I felt the truck slideing or looseing traction. Looking at those pictures it looks pretty cold and a dry snow...alot easier to drive on than the wet stuff.

I'd be in 4 wheel drive for all of the pictures. Just me, but I bought 4WD for snow, so I use it whenever I can. No sense trying to drive in 2 wheel drive when you don't have to.

I have owned 4WD trucks for roughly 38 years. Today's 4WD systems are the most refined and forgiving as any ever created. Pic #1 and #3 are the least likely to need 4WD, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why many of you (aside from the PreRunner crowd) would drive around in 2WD when you have the option for 4WD. Why bother owning one? Ability doesn't replace experience or common sense, but definately levels the playing field a bit. You bought the 4WD, use it. You won't hurt anything by staying within the guidlines (speed and conditions).

Exactly my thoughts, this is my second 4WD taco and never had a single issue with binding up or wrecking anything from driving in 4WD, pavement or no pavement. As long as you aren't trying any crazy tight turns you'll be fine!

I put over 300,000km's on my first Tacoma and would say close to 1/4 of that was in 4wd. There isn't really such thing as a straight road around here and driving in 2wd can get you landing in a ditch pretty quickly.

I use 2wd when I can, but if i'm ever unsure on the conditions i'll toss it into 4wd. The way I look at it is if you wait until your slipping to toss it into 4WD, there is a good chance you are too late!

All that being said, all of this is really dependent on tires. With a good set of snow tires any of those could be driven in 2wd, with a set of Mud Terrains it's a different story all together.....

I would say, let the conditions and your comfort level decide, not the fear that you might wreck something by driving in 4WD.
