Right I am aware of that video, I owned 2nd Gen's for 9 years prior to the 3rd so I am well aware of how they feel too.

That’d be so cool, but I think the likelihood of that happening is next to nill.

The 2.8L duramax in the ZR2 was a nice splash of flavor in the mid-size market, but didn’t that gamer discontinued?

I’d love to go to Australia for a year — their trucks are all badass. Mainly because of it breaks down you’ll die in the bush.

At 74yo, I’m on my 4th Tacoma in my lifetime and the “only” problem I’ve ever had is……. You have to change oil once and a while:amen::rofl::bananadance::D

And here I go stirring the pot lol.

The 2GR has been used by Toyota for cars, crossovers and minivans since 2005. Hell my wife’s 2007 RAV4 has one in it.

Anyone have an idea why the 2GR wasn’t used for the 2nd Gen? Or used in those bad ass Australian trucks? Or any of the Hiluxes, LC’s, Prado’s, etc?

Surely Toyota must have asked themselves this question during design development of those vehicles, and they said “Nah, use the 1GR or 1KD” for XX reason.

My 2019 4x2 v6 hauls my ~3k# boat & trailer just fine around the lake. Lots of stops and starts. You definitely know it's back there and naturally the mpg drops but I don't perceive any straining from the motor even when pulling the boat out of the water at the ramp.

Had a 2006 DCSB sport 6 speed and moved to a 2016 DCSB OR auto. I didn't notice when i first got jt, maybe I was blinded bt the newness, but it definitely required KDMaxx. I nearly sold it several times over frustrations with the shifting. Really glad I kept it now. I also had a girlfriend that had a 2010 or 11 SR5 auto which I drove a few times. I was really impressed with the 3G interior over the 2G.

I'm glad I went 3G and also glad I went auto. I like a clutch, but my 06 had throwout bearing and synchro issues pop up around 80k.

Definitely true that the 3.5 does not have the low end of the 4.0, but it is not significantly so, even coming from a 4.0 manual to a 3.5 auto. The midrange and top end power surge of the 3.5 is significant. My 4.0 felt out of breath by 4k or so IIRC. The 3.5 just keeps pulling harder as it spins up.

The 3G is the last run for this chassis, which has been around since 2005. It is as refined as it will ever be. I like having a final version chassis that has been tweaked for a decade. I'm sure the new platform will be great, but in 10 years I'm sure they will find lots of little things to improve.

I always felt like the 3G had turbo lag or something. The tunes make a world of difference. I really enjoyed my 3G once I got it tuned.

For me, the 2G is a bit easier to navigate on nasty trails or BLM roads, mostly due to the hood size and lack of throttle lag. It’s been much easier to “thread the needle” if you know what I mean.

Yes, the tune made me like driving it. It also prevented me from re-gearing.

I can see how the 2G has better forward visibility. The move from manual to auto was an off road game changer for me. I had gotten into a few tight spots with my old truck where I had to work the parking brake to keep from rolling and of course the wheel, clutch and throttle at the same time while trying to ease forward without spinning. A torque convertor wins off road, for me at least.

Should be stated that you go to a canister oil filter instead of the easy access under the hood of the 4.0. My heart yearns for the 4.0 but they are not available in MT and if they are, they gone in a second. I was forced to replace my 4.0 as some jackass totaled it. The 3G Tacoma is fine but I do still miss my 4.0.

Changing the filter on the 3.5 is not that big of a deal, plus it only requires changing the oil every 10k miles versus twice as often at 5K on the 4.0.

I used to brag about how easy it was on the 4.0. It was something I had not looked at when I bought my 3G, so just sharing my experience. And this is TW ya gotta bitch about something! :)

I would be surprised if the 4gen gets another v6, it'll be a Turbo4 (or hybrid) with it's own teething issues. Probably look like a Ranger too.

I hope they dont copy those ridiculously high bed sides from the Ranger and Colorado.
