I swapped out my water methanol nozzle last night for an 883ml/min one. I ordered a 625ml/min but snow sent me the big daddy lol. Anyways, not a real big deal, i just adjusted the controller so it is starting spray at 2lbs and ramps up to full spray at 14lbs (which it never reaches). Since i have it set up like this, the most i saw around 8lbs was 43% injection so it would be somewhere around the 380ml/min mark.

I also had a light bulb come on last night regarding why my tune is running lean sometimes in low boost situations (typically in the 2-3lb range before richening up a lot). When i swapped my motor, i swapped fuel rails and injectors too, bc my old ones had 270k on them. However, in the FSM, it states that the injectors' flow can range from 284-344cc's. I remember with my old injectors, i would see AFRs in the 12-12.5 range in low boost and then it would richen up higher than that. Since swapping injectors out, it had a lean spot where AFRs would try to spike to the 13.5-14 range under low boost. So i went back and added fuel with the 7th last night and it seems to be a little better now. Need to dial back the water/meth some and do a little more testing to possibly add a little more. I'll probably tackle that this weekend, but for now the tune is getting better.

I sure do! I've been meaning to PM you about this. Things are finally slowing down at work. Do you have any idea how many days you'd need the truck for to get things rolling? I would definitely like to get this going so there is an option for a quality manifold.. I've been getting the itch to turn mine up a little but leave the stock internals for now. Turbo seems like the obvious choice to do that :D

I just need to order material, and have it in hand, prior to you coming down. Then it would be a lot quicker to mock everything up on a weekend. Then get you back together to head home on a Sunday. In and out.

I would just cut and tack everything.

Installed some daystar shock boots today to provide a little more protection for the shafts. Did some research and found these that @whatstcp used and they worked perfect on my 2.5s.

Those are a good find for sure! I was looking at my shafts yesterday and one of them is definitely gonna need replacing next time i rebuild them.
Have you heard of anything for the front coilovers? I live on a rock road so id like to try to find something for those too if i could. Ive read mixed things about the covers like icon uses on theirs but i feel like they might be worth a try.

Have you set your mind to which turbo you're going to get?

Which turbo may change the turbine inlet flange. From T3, T4, 2.5" V‐band, or 3" v-band sizes.

    Let's discuss.

No sir i sure haven't, i need to do some more research on this, but i am leaning towards a v-band either way, just because i have fought exhaust leaks in the past and dont feel like dealing with that again.

What would your recommendation be for a turbo to push the limits with the stock bottom end? I'd like to be as close to 375-400 crank hp as possible without giving up too much low end torque, but i know that it's ultimately a compromise. I'll be honest, i have a lot to learn when it comes to turbos, so any advice you can lend would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to pay more for a good quality compressor if it means it will spool a little quicker, and just for reliability sake since this is my daily.

I think i may give these a go next time i rebuild mine. At first glance it looks like some of the resi 90* fittings might interfere, but nothing too bad i dont think

Good afternoon John! Have a good one brother:cheers:

Look at the G Series Garrett turbos, and the Borg Warner EFR turbos.

One of the perks of the BW EFR's is that they can have both integrated BOV and W/G.

I am thinking the G25-550, for OEM style spool. Or the BW EFR equivalent.

The G25-550, I believe only comes in a 3.5" outlet.

The BW's all come in 3" outlets.

I was doing some reading on this, and i was wondering if an external wastegate would be better for more/easier adjustability? It looks like the internal wastegate is easier with packaging and not needing additional piping but there are trade offs. Is there one or the other you'd recommend based on your past experiences? I am not really sure which way to go

I think i am going to continue to use my HKS BOV for now and just redo the piping on the hot side if that would work. Do you see any issue with this? i see where you mentioned the BW EFRs have an integrated BOV. If i was to go this route, would i just cap off my current one and use that?

I appreciate the offer buddy, i might take you up on this, but i am going to have to do some more research. Which one did you end up going with for your build? I am leaning towards just breaking down and buying a good one that has some room to grow for when i eventually build the motor down the road.

    Howdy John

i did some more looking into this today and i have been eyeing the BW EFR 7163 with a .85 A/R. Does that seem too big for what i want to do? I still dont fully understand what would be best, i just know the bigger the A/R the slower the spool but it has more top end potential. The G25-550 i was considering was a .72 A/R but i'm not sure how much of a difference that would make.

That is a good point on the outlet size of the G25-550. So if i went that route i'd need to go with some type of reducer to run from the 3.5" to 3" exhaust that i plan on doing. Both of the turbos above use a 3" v-band inlet i believe in the configuration discussed. Question on that.. Is there a big performance loss running a v-band inlet vs doing a t3 or something that you could use for a twin scroll setup? Sorry for all the questions lol. I am trying to learn as much as i can here and this is all very new to me

I think the 7163 will be a perfect fit. However. The turbine inlet size is just under 2.5".

    Screenshot_20210731-143507_Drive.jpg
Highly responsive, and less changes to get the exhaust to work.

Just make sure you order the inlet and outlet flanges and clamps to go with it.

I don't see you pushing 45 psi, but internal or external in this case comes down to packaging. Should it fit in your desired location with the internal wastegate mounting?

You also have the choice to go with the hinged Turbosmart IG wastegate. If you wanted more control.

Internal, has the benefit of the exhaust sounding much much cleaner, for an on road setup. Plus less exhaust work.

I'm going with the holset he351w, which is a twinscroll. I think that feature is the only reason I'll be able to spool in time to use the power.
