lower ball joint bolts why so many

why are there so many different ball joint bolts that fit our Tacomas. Also which is the right one ?

While back I ordered some bolts from toyotapartsdeal.com
and I am confused

the 90105-10406, and 90105-10505 say they are for ball joints
so does 90080‑10066
they all look the same except or the 10406 (black color bolt)
but size and thread all the same

I think you dont understand my inquiry. Why in fact there is so many bolts that fit our bolt joints. Not sure what you mean about your signature? I never asked why there are so many bolts that fit our bolt joints. Honestly your response is confusing and cheeky.

Why the heck is there a right one to begin with aint it the same ?

 

There were some iterations where 2 bolts were slightly longer than the 2 on the opposing side of the same lower ball joint.

Then, there are revisions to part numbers which essentially are the same part, but manufactured by someone else (happens often in the automotive industry).

And my statement about my signature was simply an alternative to buying bolts and LBJ's separately in the event that you were shopping for said items. I recall reading multiple posts recently in the above mentioned thread (you included) about replacing LBJ's.

The part numbers in my signature include the required bolts with the LBJ's.

Nothing cheeky, just an informed response.

 

His signature has the LBJs with bolts part numbers. There is a left (driver) and right (passenger) part number as the
ball joints are different.

If you are looking for just the bolts:

There are two LBJ bolt part numbers from Toyota. One has the washer built in to the bolt (flange bolt, preferred one to use) the other is a bolt with a separate washer.

If you just need bolts, go to Ace Hardware. They usually have a whole isle dedicated to bolts. I got my grade 10.9 metric flange bolts for like $0.50 a piece. An exact match.

They don't need to be the *exact* same length. Actually, I needed mine to be a bit longer anyway since I had accidentally stripped out the first couple threads when I tried installing the short of the bolts in the longer hole.

 

I strongly suggest that you find the part numbers using your VIN number on parts.toyota.com and then find those part numbers on your internet part provider of choice. I've found toyota parts deal parts fitment to not always mirror the parts.toyota.com diagrams. But anytime that's been the case, I default to parts.toyota.com, and I've never gotten the wrong part.

 

They are not all the same, the earlier type were washer bolt heads (1995.5-2000). The 90119-10933 are regular bolts with washers locked into the bolt, which is for 2001-2004 so your truck. The earlier bolts without washers also fit but have different torque specs.

 

That is actually a very good insight. Torque specs makes a lot of sense.

 

Do you have a link to the FSM torque specs you refer to here? I've only ever seen 59 ft lbs in the factory service manual.

This may or may not be different from the generic torque specs you see in engineering or machinist reference guides.

Also, my 2004 came with the flange bolt style.

If you have information that shows a different torque spec, that's new information that would be very useful to a lot of people. So far, I've only ever seen the 59 ft lb spec. in the FSMs.

 

Umm, also interested in what torque specs besides 59ftlbs is out there.

 

LBJs advertised to fit 01 - 04s do not come with bolts, they have to be ordered separately.

The bolts that come with the earlier years' LBJs are slightly different and might not work with the rubber dust boot that the 01 - 04s use, since the dust boot attaches using 2 of the LBJ bolts. The dust boot effectively shortens the two bolts it uses that attach it.

I would stick with the LBJ part number that is advertised for 01 - 04 if you have that year.

at the end of the day, if you don't want to trust a bunch of rando's online as to what works with your truck, simply plug your VIN into a Toyota dealer website or www.partsouq.com and it will tell you the exact part #s you need for your year/model/application. Boom, done

 

It's so weird. When I ordered my 01-04 LBJs from McGeorge I was under the impression that I would need to order the bolts separately. But when the LBJs arrived the flange bolts were included.

I did snap one of the non-outboard bolts in the spindle when doing mine because I neglected to reattach the dust boot to the LBJ, which I believe resulted in the bolt being too long and bottoming out in the spindle. Luckily I could back it out with pliers.

Got another bolt, added the boot cover, and no issues

 

The question would be, the part number on the actual tags for the products received.

McGeorge if I recall correctly, sells parts that are supplied from multiple dealers if they themselves don't have it in stock.

I've received the wrong parts before when I ordered a ton of bolts, seals, drain and fill plugs and more.

Turns out, one of the plugs that I got (wrong part) was from a 100 series LC but works on the Tacoma as well. Just had a longer magnet.

 

That’s interesting I looked for images of the bags I received (with the PN sticker) but I don’t have any. Weird because I always photo document.
