If you're talking about length of coilovers or leaf packs than that is possible.
But basic geometry unless you change to a long travel system the UCA's and LCA's remain the same.
As for cutting the crossmember? Not really an issue because it is replaced with a much stronger unit. And the factory crossmembers main function isn't intended for structural strength.
I've had and worked on all different types of suspension. 1,2,3,4,6, 12 IFS and straight axles, leaf packs and 4 link etc....
They all have their good and bad points. Just depends on what a person is looking for?
To put down one over the other really shows a lack of knowledge. (I don't understand why people do it?)
I personally love the "Jeep Killer" Sloth! Which sits on 47" tires!
    To each there own!
I just find it funny when people who never had a certain set up try and chime in and state their opinion as fact.
Almost like asking a blind man what is his favorite porno? LOL!

@toku58, you're all over the place. First you say this:

Then this when I asked why a 6" has more articulation
Then this after I pointed out that lift height has nothing to do with articulation
Please tell us again how you have a bunch of experience with suspension systems and your word is better than anyone else's that has posted in this forum.

For the record, I don’t care what anyone does to their truck.
My post earlier was only to inform OP that is IF the lift isn’t what he wants.
Once’s it’s on, You’re not just going to take it off and bolt the factory parts back on.

All of this should be pretty self evident once you start cutting parts off.
However, if OP isn’t doing it himself, he might not know this.

    As for which is better?
I could care less, Neither one is better if the driver doesn’t pick a good line.
    I’ve seen 2WD trucks go place a 4WD did not (notice I didn’t say - could not)
Even I have stuck mine, when I “shouldn’t” gotten stuck. Poor judgment and lack of knowledge. (Gets me all the time)

Well my original post was providing information to the OP. (Don't know why you seem to take offense)
You twist and assume meaning to fit your delusions? That's on you! i.e. Never said 6" had "MORE" articulation. ((You implied that!))
To go in-depth to explain to you the details of lifts? Eh? I really don't care what you want to believe. Do what works for you!
At the end of the day you seem to have a need to make yourself feel superior???

That's fine! If you'd like to provide data to dispute what I stated? That's fine I'm more than willing to consider that at any point I or anyone else could be wrong.
But I stand behind everything I said, as being the best advice for the OP that I currently have.

Correct, you never said a 6" has more articulation. You said it has "better" articulation. I guess I'm not sure what that means.

You also said a 3" lift is more likely to lift a wheel off road due to it "sort of" impeding articulation, which would imply MORE articulation out of a 6" lift or LESS articulation out of a 3" lift.

Feel free to elaborate on how I'm twisting this to fit whatever delusion you think I have. You dropped all 3" lifts into the same bucket which is inaccurate. I simply pointed out that your post was misleading.

OP should do his own research (posting here was a good start) but the problem with this forum is that a bunch of people chime in with inaccurate claims and someone who doesn't know any better takes them as fact.

There is no way a 3" lift using factory UCA/LCA is more likely to lift a wheel than a DB lift that uses factory UCA/LCA.

There is no way a 3" lift using factory UCA/LCA sort of impedes articulation when compared to a DB lift that uses factory UCA/LCA.

You calling me out for the data to support this when you don't even provide it in your posts then to call me delusional is pretty rich.

    Yeah.
But the question is, how big a tire can he fit on his 22's?

Thanks. When you have a moment, maybe you can answer the questions that I asked you regarding you articulation claims since I didn't see an answer in any of the threads linked in your signature.

Hope you have a great day too.

Like I said go hiking in "High Heel" and then you'll understand. The Heels may make you taller but it's a trade off!
Somehow I feel no matter what my answer is you'll never accept it??

I will accept your answer if I can wear platform shoes with fish in them instead of high heels. ;)

Please correct me if I'm wrong here: A 6" lift with OEM UCAs will have the same amount of articulation as a 3" lift with OEM UCAs. No more. No less. The articulation is not going to be impeded by anything unless you are running a 2.5" coil with the factory UCA or a shock with either a longer compressed length or shorter extended length.

I asked the questions for added clarity in this thread, not because I wanted to be correct, but you deflected and didn't share your knowledge. Then you claimed I was basing my comments/questions on delusions for some reason and once again avoided the questions.

YES! The DB lift maintains the same geometry as the stock suspension. (Depending on the brand! Procomp and BDS) So range of articulation will be maintained as stock.
The way this is accomplished is by replacing the spindles. The UCA and the LCA basically stay at the same angle as a stock suspension. So does your drive shaft and CV angle. (No need for a diff drop kit like on a 3" lift to prolong CV boot life) The Fabtech 6" lift kit is a different story! Unless they changed their design from the time I did my test on it they do not maintain the proper angle as the stock suspension.
Check out "Victory Offroad" his Taco has a BDS kit installed and he wheels it with no issues.

It's amazing how easy that was to say, it's a shame you had to go 10 posts deep before you could spit it out when it could have been in your first or second post when people asked you to explain instead of talking about hiking in high heels.

a 2.5 inch lift extended travel king or fox setup with proper rear leaf springs will have a LOT more articulation and flex ability than any 6" drop bracket kit that still uses factory UCAs and shocks and a big block in the rear. a 6" that also has the same fox/king/icon coilovers, will have the exact SAME flex and articulation as the 2.5 inch... except it will be higher off the ground. The only way you are getting any more flex or articulation is with long travel.

I’ve had a 4 inch D/B lift on my truck for 3 1/2 years now and I’ve had absolutely no issues or problems whatsoever. I had a local shop install it along with my bumper, winch and lights. A lot of guys will tell you that it causes more wear and tear on your components. After 3 1/2 years I haven’t had to replace anything, no u-joints, no bearings or cv shafts.

I prefer 3" platforms over heels due to reduce strain on the arch and foot. IMO, much more comfortable.:anonymous:
