I just traded my 05 Limited Tundra in on a long bed SR5. I noticed there are no skid plates. I am not a hard core off roader by any means but I do fish a lot and end up in some areas where I need to be in 4 wheel drive. Mostly fire roads and trails near rivers. I don't ever recall hitting my skid plate on my Tundra but I can't say that I haven't either. Thoughts?

If that's the case then pick up someone's TRD Off Road Skids for like $25 to be on the safe side. Heck if you're in/near Minnesota let me know, I'm getting the TRD Pro Skid installed here in the next few days so will have a set of the OR skids.

I am in Harford County, Maryland. I haven't seen any on FB marketplace or CL.

Get 50 posts here on TW and then post in the market place that you're looking for some in your area. It's not hard to get 50 posts here, just start exploring all the sub-forums and you'll get there before you know it.

Nope, they are completely different. OR skids are two smaller black pieces and the Pro is a single plate.

Or gets the tin foil 2 piece skids stock.
The pro gets the 1/4 aluminum 1 piece skid.

That and the fact that the TRD Pro skid is 1/4 metal and made to take a bit of a beating. The OR skids are thin and more to just protect the stuff underneath from some light brushing. First impact of a rock on an OR skid and you'll probably need to replace them.

Yeah, sounds perfect for what the OP needs it for. I would imagine he'd get away without them (as he did before), but for cheap he can get some protection and not have to worry about it. Win across the board.

Fire roads and trails by rivers? Unless you are a total clutz at the wheel, you’ll be fine. Don’t fret. It’s not like the rocks are jumping out the ground and targeting your oil pan.

I was thinking the same. I dont think I ever hit my skid plate on my Tundra. Like I said I am not a real off road guy. I ease along the fire roads picking my path with care. It would be a shame if I poked a hole in my oil pan when I am up in State College fishing the Little J. Long tow to Harford County.

I didn’t even consider getting a skid plate until I started doing “difficult” and “most difficult” boulder filled trails at a OHV park in northern Minnesota like the one in my profile pic.

I can assure you I would never have my truck on a trail like that. I have not the skill, balls or desire.

The SR5 doesn't come with a front skid plate anymore?

It comes with the front 'splash shield' like the OR. It doesn't have the second 'splash shield' that extends towards the transmission.
