Official 2021 NCAA Football Thread

I prefer trophy. Should we make it one that gets sent to the new champ every year or would that be too difficult?

 

I've thought about this before over the years since we've been doing this. If I won I'd want it mailed to me but if someone preferred privacy they could change their avatar pic to the trophy as a thought to gloat thru the next season. We have some time to think about this so we don't hafta be in a hurry to figure it out.

 

The Athletic is reporting some commissioners are rethinking the expansion due to OU and Texas joining the SEC. they think Sankey was just championing the expansion because he knew he’d have 2 more possible playoff teams if it went to 12. Let’s not pretend like the SEC couldn’t have 6 of the top 12 spots at season’s end any given year without ou and texas. But, hey, whatever keeps them from expanding to 12 :shrug:

 

Playoff expansion to 12 is just participation trophieism.

I'd think if you won youd want it sent to you. Worse case Kinkos has mail boxes... or a po box.

Metal gets pricey... would need some major love to make that happen.

 

I’m not buying that at all. I think Bowlsby is an incompetent moron, but he’s likely right that ESPN is behind this again (a la Big East / ACC). It’s questionable at best that ESPN declined to start working on a contract and soon after the two flagship programs of the Big 12 are suddenly leaving for more TV money.

All of this is nonsense until it’s in black and white, anyways. All these “pundits” claiming he said she said.

 

It’s going to be hilarious when everyone finds out that Texas uses the money ESPN owes them for the Longhorn network to pay off the big xii so they can leave.

it also wouldn’t surprise me if Texas helped ou pay their 70 million if they can’t come up with it right away.

 

Probably exactly what's gonna happen too. It's a stretch but both might be in the conference in 2022 although more likely 2023.

Industry sources have indicated to ESPN that this might be only the first step in the SEC’s grand plan to create a true superconference, which a source said might include as many as 60 teams or as few as 32. If it’s a bigger number of schools, then the sport’s upper echelon would include four superconferences, and the ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC would remain as stand-alone entities.

 

Dont worry, he's changed his mind. He had an editorial in the paper this week supporting the move and declaring it the most competitive conference. We'll see what he says next week.
