We are never content with what we got (myself included) always had to have the newest, biggest, one of a kind thing. We are lead to believe it makes us feel good and it does for a minute until we see something that someone has we want even more. I’ve learned to pray about those decisions, he will answer, it may not be the one you were hoping for, but he would never steer you wrong!

not clear what many currently consider a good deal

covid has changed a lot .....................circumstances not favoring the consumer

my purchase pre-covid to date would result in thousands more if i bought to date

    approx $8k

i would NOT consider my taco a good deal $8k more

This!!! Achieving some level of contentment in our lives is probably the single most impactful thing one can do to aid their financial life! But it is very hard for us humans to do this, we are wired to want more / the best in our lives and some will do just about anything to pursue this insatiable pipe dream. And it does not help that we are continually bombarded with marketing to to seek the "next / greatest best thing".

You really are struggling with a first world issue here my friend; keep that in mind.

Keep your current truck. Take the $7,500 you were going to spend. Open up a new individual investment account for yourself. Put the money into a few different index-tracking ETF's or mutual funds. Lock it away in your mind. Set yourself a yearly reminder to check in on the account value with an end goal of 10 or 15 years (long-term) and reward yourself at that time for your patience by doing something purposeful and meaningful with the account at that time - a trip somewhere with family or friends, etc.
