I have the OEM Toyota 5" black tube steps on my truck and, like many others have said in other threads, they are borderline useless as a side step since they are so high up and tucked in relatively close to the cab. I have altered how I get in the truck with them to make them semi-useful but I certainly wish they were a fewer inches lower so they could help with getting in although they do provide superficial protection against rocks and other road debris.....expensive protection.

I would love to get a set of flat/0 degree sliders from one of the big name companies but to make the investment of $1000-$1500 worthwhile I would want them to serve as a sidestep too for entrance/exit. My truck has the TRD Lift Kit so the front is raised 2" and the rear 1". Not a monster lift but enough to where my soon to be wife has to put some serious effort to get into it using the OEM tube steps! Can anyone confirm if any of the flat sliders (with the top plate, of course) bolt on in such a way that they are mounted slightly lower than what I already have. I'm attaching a picture of the way the truck sits now for reference.

All the sliders I've seen can be used as steps ... just a smaller area to put your foot on compared to a regular nerf bars. NONE of the sliders I've seen stick down below the frame though.

The purpose of the is to be high enough that they protect the rocker panel and don't get hung up on things. They suffer from the same problem you complain about. They are just too high to be a good step. Sure, you can use them for a step and a 4 year old can use them as a ladder rung to help climb in. They aren't any lower than your current step. Here is a zero degree slider installed

I'll reiterate what @PinStripes said. Even the 0°sliders with a top plate are designed to sit no lower that the bottom of the frame rail. Look under your truck and compare to where your step is now. I have sliders that just get in the way of me getting into the truck. Partner and kids use them all the time. They are better then the Predator steps. I banged my shin on those all the time!

I have Mobtown's 0° sliders, got them mostly to make it easier for the kids. They are pretty high up, and as mentioned before, sliders are not supposed to hang below the frame.

I appreciate the insight! The sliders look super cool and if I were really doing some true wheelin’ with this truck would be really beneficial, however with them not serving as anymore of a functional step than what I have now I think I’ll look into that AMP Research power running boards.

    Those would be ideal.

hmmm...if only someone would design a true slider that had a power drop down step. I'd be happy, the fam would be happy...nor more busted shins!

Well the sliders take 8-10 weeks so if you want to have a race we can do that!
