Kicker Hideaway Install Help

The red LED is being constantly triggered on the amp and I can't figure out why. I installed it yesterday and it worked most of time except it would cut out every now and then for 1-3 seconds (red LED turns on) before resuming. I thought maybe it was a bad ground, so today I cleaned up the grounding point with a steel wire brush to remove all of the paint. Now the red LED lights up the whole time. I tried different grounding points and the same thing is happening. It occasionally turns on (blue LED) and the bass hits for a split second and then goes back to red. If I turn the volume really low (below 6) and the gain all the way up, it works. I've messed with every setting and it's the same situation. I checked the multi-meter and it's getting a steady 13.8v into it. If I turn off the head unit the blue light comes on, but once the music starts playing it turns red.

Non-JBL
Remote turn-on NOT used
T-Tapped both front speakers
Grounded at the seat belt bolt (also tried a random bolt on the bottom and the latch for the seat)

Try running a temporary negative cable directly from the battery. If its still not powering on, then send the sub in for warranty.

 

Sounds like an issue with the input level. Make sure the input level switch is set to hi

 

That's what the Crutchfield guy said too. I'll give that a shot once I can find a long enough cable.

 

I did have it set to low originally before it stopped working. After it stopped working I switched it to hi and that didn't help. I feel like I tried every combination with the settings.

 

Couple of things to try for more data points.

1. Set your amp to take remote turn on, and temporarily jump power from your 12v input on the amp to the remote turn on.

2. Gain to minimum, head unit volume to minimum, amp set to high level input, what happens? With gain down and volume up to reasonable level, what now?

3. Picture of your wiring, particularly how/where you tapped signal.
